slaw, I just put in a pre-order for the two disc clear vinyl Goat's Head Soup.
@boxer12

+1 Bkeske, Your vinyl will sound wonderful

I sure hope so, this was a big leap for me, as I’m so damn cautious and careful regarding diminishing returns, and always looking for ‘a deal’, a diamond in the rough. But, if there was one area to make that leap, it was in my overall TT rig. It was time.

I’m now listening to my vinyl, and albums like Eno’s, and wondering just how much different it may all sound to me after It’s all put together. At least that’s what we hope for. I’m really interested in hearing how much better some of my orchestral LP’s will sound. To me, that will be all worth it. Fingers crossed.
Slaw,
Check that Low album out if you get a chance. Since you’re a fan of the band, I think you’ll find it pretty interesting. Alan even plays banjo on the last song. Not something I expected from him.

Will do @boxer12,

Glad to see @spiritofradio back. "Josephine" is a great record!

Just plopped this album down on the Avid

My Feet are Smiling .... Leo Kottke, 1973
@uberwaltz

Just plopped this album down on the Avid

lol, great minds and all that.

Im telling ya, that Kottke sounded simply amazing on the SOTA. As if I was listening/hearing it for the first time.
Neil Young and Crazy Horse - Everyone Knows This is Nowhere. Reprise reissue, 70’s.
@uberwaltz

You got the SOTA up and running already?
Nice!!
How is the Jelco on it?

Yep. Messaged you, but have a feeling that message has been temporarily lost by the Audiogon gremlins.

The arm came Sunday. Included fastening bolts were too short for my board. Found longer ones, installed, balanced, adjusted, put the Grado on it for the time being, more adjustments....yadayadayada. Spent all last night listening...tweaking...listening.

Sounds fantastic. The Jelco was actually pretty easy to set-up. Not fussy at all.

All in all, a very very nice combo...incredibly pleased....now for the Soundsmith to arrive.
Don’t hold your breath for messages....lol
Actually about lunch it did say I had a message from you but would not let me read it or even see it.

Really pleased for you that it has worked out so well already.
I think it will be another huge leap with the Soundsmith.
Now you will really hear what your records can sound like.

I ponied up and bought an Origin Live Encounter Mk3c tonearm for the Avid.... we will see.
@uberwaltz

I ponied up and bought an Origin Live Encounter Mk3c tonearm for the Avid.... we will see.

Fantastic! The one that was listed here? Was that an Encounter?

And yea, I was incredibly surprised the arm came as fast as it did, and Sunday delivery by DHL. I wasn’t expecting it until mid week this.
No it was onusaudiomart. Got quite a good deal, fair bit less that the one listed on here.
Probably take longer for my tonearm to arrive than yours did....lol

Ted Nugent S/T.
I think it will be another huge leap with the Soundsmith.

Interesting story. Bought from Hi Fi Heaven, demo, very low hours as advertised.

Don’t know a lot about them, so did a little research today. Seems they are known for ‘bait and switch’ tactics.

Got an email today, ‘sorry but we are sold out of those demo models, but we can give you a new Zephyr ES model for $98 more, let us know’. Damn, I thought, like clockwork.

Not liking a business who operates like that, I sent an email back requesting a full refund. A few minutes later the salesperson tells me he has received approval to sell me the new Zephyr ES version for the original amount of the ‘demo’. I accepted, and he said to expect a tracking number soon.

Unbelievable. After that purchase, I won’t buy anything else from them. They still have the ‘demo’ on their site for sale. Beware.
Bkeske,
Glad it's working out well & you're enjoying it. It really is a great table & arm! Kind of sux about the cartridge vendor. I've viewed the items they have for sale many times. Glad you stood your ground there.

Fleetwood Mac / Mystery to me
Actually Brian I have bought a LOT of gear from Hifi heaven over the years.
Unfortunately that demo for new for a few dollars more is a pretty common move on their part.
I deal direct with them off their website,it cuts out a lot of bs.
I keep buying as they do have some killer deals and I have never had a bad item received from them.
@boxer12

Glad it’s working out well & you’re enjoying it. It really is a great table & arm!

Thanks man, I’m thrilled with the outcome thus far, even with the old Grado Red installed.

‘Now *this* is what vinyl can sound like’ I said to myself last night.
Every thing I ever ordered from HiFiHeaven has arrived as listed. Very fast fulfillment. No govt. tariff.
Example:
PS Audio stuff listed as new. Sold at a pre-owned price. Subsequently registered as new with Boulder.
Besides the buyer NEVER has to beware using PayPal.

New on my TT tonite, Benz Micro.
Besides the buyer NEVER has to beware using PayPal.

Yep, I used PayPal, so had a feeling they would back down. Probably cost them less to offer at the original price than refund my money.

To you and @uberwaltz , glad you have dealt with them prior. They do seem to have a decent track record, I would just prefer a seller not play those types of games. It is very easy to get someone to cough up another $100 after they have committed to $1,000. I’m sure they ‘win’ those sales quite often.
Amazing what you can learn on YouTube.

Been plagued with “squeaky tapes” of late.
Found Capitol and emi were notorious for not having used correct lubricant in initial manufacturing of tapes, especially the XDR tapes.
Now know how to fix and relubricate them and the old Nakamichi 500 worked very well for that job.

Useless snippet of information for tonight...lol
Not at all useless Uber. Sounds like a fix to a problem.

LA4 - LA FOUR
Concord Jazz 1976

Reset my antiskate last night using a newly arrived “WallySkater”. The change it dictated from my “setting by ear” was an increase. Initially sounded fuller but with diminished top end extension.  I have always found anti skate and SRA to have audible interaction so I increased the VTA/SRA adjustment on the OL Illustrious mk3c by, eventually, 1.5mm.  I’m really enjoying the new presentation.  More solid image with extension in treble and base that is very satisfying.  If always found the final step of setting SRA by ear and AntiSkate by ear leaves two variables dancing together that I tended to optimize one off were the other was thought to sound best.  Having a better guide on one allows the setting by ear of the SRA to be producing a different but possibly more enticing presentation.  This is going to be a fun tool to have for future cartridge swaps as I get better at using it and to set up the new OL Enterprise Mk4 tonearm that’s enroute from England.
