Went to the Cincinnati Public Library annual book sale and picked up about 50 single LPs (mostly classical) and about 10 box sets (all classical).

A very kind audiophile that I met there gave me a
NM Britten "War Requiem" (London, Britten,Pears,Fischer-Dieskau, Vishnevskaya) from off his stack.

I have been wanting to pick this up for years and just never found one that was in good shape or was affordable.
I paid $1.00 for the Britten as well as the other discs.
I do have another version by Rattle (digital)that is pretty wonderful. But this one has such a low sound floor and soundstaging that the digital version doesn't portray. Not to mention the dynamic shading and impact.Amazing!

Rushton I know you have this and love it. Now I do too.

imagine that

e

I was gonna watch "Inglorious Bastards" on BluRay....
I loved Inglorious Basterds! Christopher Waltz steals the movie, and I am shocked by how good Diane Kruger is in that movie, she's great, as well as the beautiful French actress who plays the theater owner.

I need to rent that again, my wife didn't want to see it because of the violence, but I know the movie well enough to zip through the parts she will gross out at.

MFSL - Beatles Box

I know some of the record afficiandos don't love this set, but to me it's sublime. I have wanted one since buying my first MFSL Beatle album, and I finally bit the bullet, bid up and got one for what I feel was a great price.

I couldn't be happier, the vinyl is in sublime shape.

No, it's not the Japanese mono versions, which I have heard a few of recently, but I still think they are stellar.

An all Beatles weekend is in store.
The local audio group is meeting this afternoon and members asked for "an introduction to classical music." Not wishing to teach music history class, a few of us put our heads together and decided to offer simply a sampler based "classical music we enjoy, perhaps you'll find something here that strikes your fancy..." We'll only be playing snippets, unfortunately. Nothing longer than 8 minutes. Here's the planned playlist, that will surely change based on requests...

Debussy, “Sonata for Flute, Viola & Harp”

Chopin, “Ballade No. 3,” Moravec

Bach, “Brandenburg Concerto No. 3,” Pinnock/English Consort
