Szell conducts Kodály - Háry János Suite & Prokofiev - Lieutenant Kijé Suite. The Cleveland Orchestra. Columbia Masterworks early 70’s.

+1 Rides Again MFSL
I was slower on the draw than you, #3652 😎
Good to see The Vid didn’t slow you down much Steve.

My local audio buddy came over to mow my lawn today. 👌👌

Well, he's more.... a true friend.

Rozhdestvensky conducts Prokofiev - The Stone Flower. Bolshoi Theatre Orchestra. Melodiya/Angel 1968

@spiritofradio  - Plaid Room lists their "damaged" selections on their website. No "Sweet Relief" listed... I'll keep looking, but fear I missed out.

Karajan conducts Prokofiev - Symphony No. 5 B-dur Op. 100. Berliner Philharmoniker. Deutsche Grammophon 1969, German release

Charles Munch conducts Mendelssohn - Violin Concerto In E Minor, Opus 64 & Prokofiev - Violin Concerto In G Minor, Opus 63. Jascha Heifetz and the Boston Symphony Orchestra. RCA Red Seal reissue late 60’s, originally 1959.

Yeah, I have an OP Szell/ Cleveland Orchestra too.  Will look for that Ormandy.

@reubent I’m sure you’ve checked the usual online sources - looks tough.  Called our LRS and they’re also out.   If you haven’t already, ask plaid room if they have a scratch and dent copy.  I’ve got a couple of RSD titles that way.

@spiritofradio

@bkeske That Mendelssohn one of my favorites.  I have 2 or 3 different versions including the film score from the Woody Allen movie (which is excellent).  Do you have a favorite version?

That is probably my favorite….that I have…James. It is also the most complete. Other versions I have are condensed snipits, including Szell/Cleveland.

@slaw glad to hear it Steve.

Thanks Brian! I tested positive on my third day of feeling bad. I think I went on an upswing after that

WTH? Somehow I missed the RSD drop... again. If anyone happened to get an extra copy of "Sweet Relief", or know a source that still has one in stock at MSRP, please let me know. Don't want to pay the flipper prices on eBay.

Love this record, and bought it on CD when it was originally released. Would love to have it on vinyl.

Oh, and Happy Father's Day to all the fathers out there...

Eugene Ormandy conducts Mendelssohn - A Midsummer Night's Dream. The Philadelphia Orchestra. RCA Red Seal 1977

Glad you’re feeling better Steve!

On first listen, I am in love with this. How'd I not know this wonderful music? @spiritofradio so which album of theirs do I need next?

Sublime stuff, quiet pressing, typically exaggerated hardpan early stereo mix. Maybe Barney's best?

One of my top ten albums of the last decade. Peter Buck on guitar, Glen Kotchie on drums, Tucker Martine recording made in Portland. How can you go wrong?

Steve you are ripping it up with marathon spinning - the @Slaw of old days !

Welcome back Spencer ;-)

I flunked out of math rock when the exam was based on The Police..” Murder by numbers, one two, three… “

arthur blythe "basic blythe" - if you've ever wondered what a straightforward high quality jazz date would look like if a string quartet were also invited

Karajan conducts Mendelssohn - 5 Symphonies. Berliner Philharmoniker. Deutsche Grammophon 4LP box, 1973. German release

@spiritofradio

I streamed Covet after your mention and liked what I heard. Also web searched and found Yvette Young is a self taught guitarist and fronts the band. The photo on the link shows her with the 7 string guitar, pretty cool! I can see getting blank stares at the mention of Math Rock…🤔

Old 97's "Fight Songs"

2007/RunOutGroove/#2850

just noticed these are numbered by pressing the # into the back jacket.

John Wesley Harding’s " New Deal"

2012/Yep Roc .

Why do you take pleasure in other people's failure.

@bslon

Covet, interesting sound James. I’d not heard the term Math Rock before.

yeah, I’m often met with blank stares or laughter when I use the term….

it’s a fairly recently evolved form of progressive rock

My favorite Math Rock bands are Plini (genius Eastern European fellow plays all the instruments on his records, incredible guitar player, influential, tip of the spear stuff) , Covet (discussed above), and Polyphia (two/twin? very fast but musical guitarists).   Check them out if you don’t know them.  They’ll keep you young.

another absolutely awesome band that’s sometimes described as math rock but also as jazz rock is Volto.  They made, I think, one of the best instrumental albums of all time.
