Hey James,
How'd you like Joan Shelley's latest?
@sbank I also have Fantasy Girls, Lines, decent enough but as you said not at the same level… |
@spiritofradio +1 on Tommy Bolin. I have a few of his records. |
From Wiki: |
@bslon yes! And gone to earth is my favorite. That 12 string sounds so cool. |
@spiritofradio Thx for the quick reply. I will look for the 1959 Terre Haute stereo pressing. You might like Ruth Price With Shelly Manne... its a live recording from 1961(Contemporary S7590). One of my favorite jazz/vocal recordings from the 1960’s. Plan to spin it on Friday and report the SQ. |
bobby sutliff, only ghosts remain--in a parallel universe this guy'd be a big star--he's a guitar hero and a very good singer with excellent, jangly songs + a killer cover of richard thompson's "small town romance" micronotz, 40 fingers--on first blush this is garden variety thrashy punk with a better-than-average singer. listen closer and you'll notice how hooky the songs are; most of them are still embedded in my cranium 30+ years after hearing 'em poco, cantamos--unfairly overshadowed, imo, by the likes of csn, eagles, etc., but they're better musicians and less cringeworthy overall |
@dayglow 👍 |
@mammothguy54 Thx! I love the ability to find obscure "budget" vinyl with great content and Audiophile SQ. |
@dayglow thanks. It was my 1973 Stereo Terre Haute repress. I also have the later repress with the different cover that I think sounds better but my copy is very scratchy. Not my scratches, btw…. |
@spiritofradio +1 Lambert Hendricks & Ross What version(pressing) did you play? |
@mammothguy54 Bernie Grundman mastered 4. What I like about Tim Weisberg is his music is difficult to categorize. Was it rock/jazz/folk or just some type of new fusion? I even detect (pre) new age? |
@dayglow I have a few other Tim Weisberg albums and they are all really great sonics. I saw him perform at the Golden Bear in Huntington Beach, back in 1979. Small venue, about 350 people, and a wonderful show. |
@mammothguy54 +1 Splendido Hotel and for being the first to post in over 10 hours here! |
Earl Klugh-Crazy For You Side 2 Yes-Yesshows Side 2 Johnathan Edwards-ST Side 2 SQ Audiophile Teddy Pendergrass-Love Language Side 2 Three Dog Night-Seven Separate Fools(Probe UK) Side 1 Cedar Walton-Eastern Rebellion(repress) Side B SQ Audiophile Tim Weisberg 4-Side 1 SQ Audiophile BTO-ST Side 1 Was not planning a vinyl night it just happened. Weisberg 4 gets the SQ crown due to being more liquid(organic) then Eastern Rebellion and more relaxed then Edwards but all 3 have solid Audiophile SQ. BTO SQ was OK but the upper treble was MIA. Seven Separate Fools what a great discovery for me, since I only knew some of the Top 40 songs when I was in grade school. Midnight Runaway might be my favorite song from them.

The Police - Outlandos d' Amour It didn't take me long to play this one. Great album, darn good sonics. Al Di Meola - Splendido Hotel Al surely is a great guitarist! Kenny Burrell with Coleman Hawkins - Bluesey Burrell AP/QRP issue. I still find it hard to believe how much excellent sound was made in recording studios so many years ago. And AP gets these master tapes and gets every bit of information out of them. Excellent mastering, plating, and stamping. Excellent music! |
Agreed. I love that kind of pop rock. Solid hook. Makes me sing, really loud... |
thin white rope, "exploring the axis"--you hear a bit of velvet underground and krautrock influence, but this is mostly very unique-sounding fountains of wayne, s/t--this sort of clever-pop can sound smarmy in the wrong hands (i.e. weezer), but these guys do it really well, with big hooks and a great guitar sound. "radiation vibe" is incredible. roy loney, "out after dark"--ex flamin groovie runs out of steam a bit on side 2, but side 1 is as tough a rockabillyish set as you'll ever hear |
@reubent Only digital Tom. Wish I had the records. ******* ******** ********* The Best Of The Count Basie Big Band (Pablo) Mendelssohn - A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Maag/LSO/ORG) |
David Gray - "Mutineers" I like David Gray. I've had "White Ladder" in my semi-regular rotation for 20 years and bought the anniversary deluxe box-set when it came out last year. However, after listening to "Mutineers" more lately, I think I prefer "Mutineers" over the classic "White Ladder". Any of you guys have either of these albums? |
@big_greg +1 on Art 🌶 @dayglow +1 on Casino 🎰
Joan Shelley - The Spur Skúli Sverrisson • Bill Frisell - Strata Secret Machines - Now Here is Nowhere Covet - technicolor Franz Schubert - Streichquintett C-dur (Amadeus/Pleeth)
And Presently: Rickie Lee Jones - Pirates Count Basie Orchestra - "88 Basie Street"

Count Basie - Basie Jam #2 Count Basie - Basie Jam #3 I have Basie Jam (the first of this 3 series album set) and like it so much that I bought the other two, which just arrived. They are all wonderful, but I think that I am quickly placing #3 as the best of them. Excellent performance and really good sonics. Highly recommended. |
