Played last night. Was not being over generous with SQ ratings, the power had an added jump factor to my system. Very difficult picking a SQ champ tonight since everything had elevated SQ. Still in progress of playing my entire vinyl collection, The Call and 1700 were first time plays. Have added about 250 albums in the past year with about 45 still sealed. After 4+ years close to 90% of my vinyl has been played with around 5-6% of unplayed or unwanted vinyl will be thrifted due to condition or having multiple copies.

@bslon, would you agree that kiln house is the best FM record and that danny kirwan its best singer/songwriter?
|
@loomisjohnson…it’s good to see you checking in.
Kiln House gets regular playing time here but Bare Trees and Future Games are also my favorite Fleetwood Mac albums. Danny Kirwan wrote and sang some fine songs on those too, but Christine McVie did also (Morning Rain, Spare Me A Little Of Your Love) and continued to do so on later stuff (after Kirwan left), which kept me hanging on as a fan. I lost interest in the band after Rumours, which is the last LP of theirs that I own. I could never get into their early work with Peter Green.
|
@bslon et. al.:
i mostly agree with the greatness of bare trees and future games (as well as ms. mcvie), though "sentimental lady" gargles my nads. as for the p. green era, i'd give "then play on" another chance--it has "o well" + "closing my eyes," an incredible kirwan song.
my picks for the holiday:
graham parker, the real macaw--his foray into new-wavy keyboards and arrangements was a mistake, but he is a first-rate songwriter and this is an overlooked gem
chris whitley, teraa incognita--the vanishingly rare blues guy who doesn't sound like anyone else. "weightless" is a stone classic.

The aforementioned Chris Whitley title would be a joy to hear.

An unusual Wednesday vinyl night. No SQ flaws diminished the content of any albums played tonight. McCorkle takes the SQ crown with her first Concord recording.

I like other Fleetwood Mac albums, I love Kiln House. It has the most 1950's American Rock 'n' Roll sound and feel of all their albums. It was amongst my most-played albums in 1970.
