No one likes us, I don't know why We may not be perfect, but heaven knows we try But all around, even our old friends put us down Let's drop the big one and see what happens
We give them money, but are they grateful? No, they're spiteful and they're hateful They don't respect us, so let's surprise them We'll drop the big one and pulverize them
Asia's crowded and Europe's too old Africa is far too hot And Canada's too cold And South America stole our name Let's drop the big one There'll be no one left to blame us
We'll save Australia Don't wanna hurt no kangaroo We'll build an all American amusement park there They got surfin', too
Boom goes London and boom Paree More room for you and more room for me And every city the whole world round Will just be another American town Oh, how peaceful it will be We'll set everybody free You'll wear a Japanese kimono And there'll be Italian shoes for me
They all hate us anyhow So let's drop the big one now Let's drop the big one now
Reminds me of this gem delivered in a dead pan matter of fact voice by the late great J J Cale,
”I can’t swim and I can’t fly I ain’t no fish, I ain’t no bird in the sky I can’t tell if the sun’s gonna shine And I don’t know if you’ll ever be mine But I’ll make love to you any old time”
"So there'll be no guiding light for you and me We are not sailors lost out on the sea We were always headed toward eternity Hoping for a glimpse of Gaililee."
"Cuz what they do in Washington Iz looking out for number one And Number one ain’t you You’re not even "number two"." Frank Zappa - You are what you iz Frank sang this on SNL and was banned for life.
From the Frank Zappa masterpiece Packard Goose below .
Information is not knowledge. Knowledge is not wisdom. Wisdom is not truth. Truth is not beauty. Beauty is not love. Love is not music. Music is THE BEST ,End Quote .
That sums up my life long love of music and the insanity we go thru to get the best sound possible .
"If you’ve got somebody -you can trust to the very end -I said if you do I want to be like you -’Cause you sure got a real good friend" Grand Funk Railroad - In Need
Oops. "West" is a fantastic song, but it was "Are You Alright?" that I meant to single out for it's lyrical content. It you weren't in love when the song begins, you will be by the time it ends.
The complete lyrics in Lucinda Williams' song "West" on the album of the same title are the sweetest, most endearing I've heard in a long, long time. The chord sequence and melody are also magnificent, absolutely beautiful. Heart-wrenching, actually.
"Now the Klingons they came last night and they repossessed by van. My Cerrilian brandy's all used up; this is my very last can! But I ain't givin' up cause I still have a plan!
Beam me up, Scotty, beam me aboard! I'm just a poor old Trekkie In a world I can't afford. All my life supports have failed, all the mother ships have sailed. Beam me up, Scotty, beam me up.
We've been searching for our whole lives. And we have traveled through unexplainable stories. Swear to God I fought the good fight, always waiting for the coming of morning. I heard the Captain say, I heard the Captain say, "The more I know, the less I'm knowing." I heard the Captain say, I heard the Captain say, "Activate your force-fields and just keep going..."
"Do you miss me when I go Honey I love you and that's all you need to know Well then what is love Love is an object kept in an empty box How can something be in an empty box Well well give me another shot Of that truth serum"
Muriel plays piano Every Friday at the Hollywood They brought me down to see her And asked me if I would Do a little number And I sang with all my might She said, "Tell me are you a Christian child?" And I said, "Ma'am, I am tonight."
Oh God, can you feel the sun in your back Oh God, can you see your shadow, inky black on the sand Oh God, can you hear the saltwater drying on your skin Oh God, can you feel my heart beating in my tongue
Oh God, by being quiet, I hope to alleviate my debt Oh God, by sitting still, I hope to lighten your load
And when your shadow covers me from head to toe And curtonevrae flies tell me it’s my time to go Seven waves of insects make babies in my skin Seven waves of insects make families in my skin It’s just like animals at play And the flesh rotted off my skull And then I will have earned my permanent smile
Oh God, I never, never ask why Oh God, I never, never ask why
"If you chew tobacco, and wish upon a star You'll find out where the scarecrows sit Just like punchlines between the cars" -- Tom Waits, On the Nickel.
If you are the tabloid Caught up in this typhoid of cuckoo Still hoarding the butter In the mountains of muttering Voodoo Spreading this gospile According to hostile Well fuck you... fuck you You deserted the spirit forever... sheep Fuck you... for good Why don't you fuck off With your certified culture Whimping away to some Pasturised future Killing the airwaves Gannets for guano Shit for propaganda Radio dumbo
My last post to this thread was 14 years ago. Figured it was time to add another. Was listening to The Rainmakers - "The Good News and the Bad News" album tonight and I really enjoy the song "We Walk the Levee". Not many songs out there about long going family feuds. I like this one and here's the hook......
The mud and the guilt and the gun get heavy, We do what we gotta. We walk the levee.
