Trade thoughts

I've had a Focal Aria setup (50/50 2ch and movies) for 5 years now and I'm ready for a change.  Current setup is:

Aria 948, Aria CC900, Aria 906, SVS SB3000

Anthem MRX 740, Anthem MCA 225 (for the 948s); Apple TV 4k and Bluesound Node X

Recently I was offered a trade to swap the 948s for the MartinLogan Motion XT F200 (I'd worry about the remaining speakers later)

Am I crazy to be considering this?  I'm not really looking to throw a bunch more money at this right now, so I'm kinda looking for a different sound as opposed to an upgrade, if that makes sense

Absolutely critical you listen to them.  Different mid-treble character.  Also, if your current speakers are working well in the room.

Also, the sweet spot is most likely different so check how the stereo image is in your current and ML as you move left to right.

Of course, if you haven't invested in your room acoustics, it's a better place to go than throwing money at speakers first. :)

What sound characteristics are most important to you and what specific improvements are you looking for?

You either change all speakers in a multichannel setup or you don't change anything.

If you're looking for some change without spending a whole lot, get a pair of the Sony XM5 360 reality headphones ( WH-1000XM5).

I would recommend putting your efforts into identifying the sound you want. If you switch your equipment in order to try a new sound every five years until you stumble into the sound that satisfies you... well, it may take decades.

I would embark on a research project to look for a sound that is really compelling to you. I would recommend also listening to live music, particularly acoustic. Is there something in that which emotionally stirs you, that makes you crave more? That is what you want. Find a few audiophiles nearby, go to local dealers. Ask to listen to warm tube sound as well as the best high end sound they have. Somewhere along the way you are likely to be astonished to find something really compelling.

Then look to change out your system to do get that sound.

Yeah that's why I like having a,big collection of stereo equipment. I switch stuff around all the time.I have 3 setups in different rooms . They all sound different.

this is not an upgrade this is a sideways move at best.

you would g et far better results by upgrading your electronics.

just slapping a larger amplifier on your fronts doesn’t really cut it as the dac and preamp section on the receiver is still compromised.

instead you would dramatically improve your systems musical performance by upgrading to a high end integrated amplifier and running the rec through it

we would recommend  a unison research Unico 150 a hybrid integrated amplifier

and you could sell your current amplifier to help pay for the new integrated

you will notice a larger soundstage a warmer midrange and an overall more engaging sound.
