Stand mount to floor stand.

I currently have KEF R3s with 2 KEF R400B subs. I'm pretty happy but have been thinking about moving up to a larger full range floor standing speaker. I have an opportunity to try the Sonus Faber Cremona M and get them on the cheap.. I have never heard them. Is this a upward move or a lateral move? My amp is a Yamaha AS2100. I've done some reading, they're pretty efficient and 4ohms, that should be good for my Yamaha. Any input is appreciated.

Well, the Cremona M is a pretty good sized floor standing speaker, so that is a whole different approach.  The Cremona M received quite positive reviews and is said to be an improvement over the original Cremona.  As to whether it is an "upward move", that depends on what kind of sound you like.  I do think they will sound quite different than your R3s.  One nice thing I read about them is that they are largely free from dynamic compression, which is high on my list of attributes in a speaker.  In terms of having the ability to elicit musical enjoyment from the listener, I suspect the Cremona M will be superior.

@mtrot thanks for your input. I'm aware they are much larger. I thought I might be able to eliminate the 2 subs, but I'll wait to hear them before getting rid of anything.

I wouldn’t rush to eliminate subs as they can add significantly to ultimate system performance even with “full-range” floorstanders.  If you can try the SFs at home, why wouldn’t you?  Just do it.  Best of luck.

Once I added the QLN Prestige 5 to my system the subs left the room.

I did keep them in for a month or so and decided to pull them and have not missed them. But that is also for my listening space. If I had this system in my living room that may be a different story.

proceed with caution.

I'd also say you should expect rather different presentations and although I may have preferred the R3 years ago, I'm sure probably in the Cremona M camp these days after many years of various audio pleasures.

If you can try them out easily, why not? I'd also say hang onto the subs. They can be crossed low and really disappear if careful. Have fun checking it out.

I just heard I will be demoing them next week. Supposedly near mint condition 10-12 years old, asking $5500. I'm seeing them on line 6K-7K. I guess I'll decide after I hear them.
