DAC question - is music streamer DAC better than mcintosh DA2? I recently upgraded my Yamaha AS2100 to a McIntosh MA8950. Although I felt the Yamaha was good for it's price point, it was the weak link in my system, and works really well powering my outdoor speakers. I also use a Node to stream. Upgrading the ...
Time for a new cartridge Thank you all for your responses. After taking all your suggestions into account, I'm first going to send my cartridge back to VDH for a rebuild. I have a vintage Denon with an Ortofon Bronze as my back up. While that's going on, I'm going to do s...
Choose between McIntosh MA9000 used vs MA8950 new I own the 8950. My speakers are Cremona Ms. I stream with a Node run through the DA2. I'm very pleased.

Temporary Down Sizing - Integrated Amp Recommendations I've never heard the Vincent or the Luxman, but I've had The Yamaha AS2100 for 4 years. It's a solid amp and a great value for the money.
What’s your latest high-end audio purchase? Sonus Faber Cremona M Not a lot of them out there, but I scored a pair. Love them so far gonna put some Gaiia II under them.
Top 10 vintage cassette decks Harmon Kardon was in the mix back in the day. I have a HK 2000 in a box in my basement. I've been thinking of breaking it out. You may have given me some motivation.
Looking for a change. I've enjoyed reading your comments and perspectives. Some have asked about my equipment, if you read my original post it's all spelled out there. Some have suggested brands that I would consider a lateral move not a move up. As far as my cables an...
Looking for a change. As expected the common theme is the Yamaha. I have a friend who is a Macintosh dealer and has been pushing me towards a Macintosh. Of course I could demo at home as long as it's in stock. He also has Prima Luna, which I know a few people mentioned...
Kef LS50s - great like me but need to come up for air KEF R3s are warmer and have better bass. They still use the Uni Q driver. The soundstage and detail are excellent. They are not that large and will not overwhelm your listening room. They are in your budget.
Why I'm not adding a sub to my 2-way monitors for music I have KEF R3 bookshelf speakers. They are substantial for bookshelf speakers. After owning them a few months I decided to add a sub. I added a KEF R400B, It definitely added another dimension to the sound. Although better, I still felt like I was...
Stand mount to floor stand. I just heard I will be demoing them next week. Supposedly near mint condition 10-12 years old, asking $5500. I'm seeing them on line 6K-7K. I guess I'll decide after I hear them.
Stand mount to floor stand. @mtrot thanks for your input. I'm aware they are much larger. I thought I might be able to eliminate the 2 subs, but I'll wait to hear them before getting rid of anything.
You own a store, you sell 2 brands, which? Yamaha and Macintosh. Yamaha covers every aspect of AV from consumer gear to audiophile. Macintosh will satisfy the snobs.
Upgrading phono stage I was in this position just recently. I have a Yamaha AS2100 and wanted to upgrade the phono stage. My TT is a VPI Prime with a VDH Special MC cartridge and my budget was $1000. After many suggestions, I purchased a slightly used Musical Fidelity ... |
