Duelund tinned copper from Partsconnexion, Bare wire terminations. 12 or 16g depending on how long. I have a double run of 16g (approx 13ga) and have bought and sold a number of heavy hitters costing up a grand while hanging on to these. |
My experience with silver interconnects is they thrive on extended burn in times on a cable cooker. |

With respect to “flavor of the month”, Clear Day Cables’ longevity in the spotlight was undoubtedly cut short by the untimely death of the company owner. Continued strong resale value many years later is a testament to their quality and reputation. |
Get a few popular brands and simply try them. Take a small hit with restock fees. That’s the easiest and straight forward way to do it.

Previous cables were all Clear Days, with the Double Shotgun and Paul’s jumpers. Very nice cables and I enjoyed them for many years. Still loved the faces on the sales staff at a local shop when I took them in and we compared them to Kimber 4TC which is probably a similar priced cable. They were astonished to hear how more open and natural Paul’s cables were and sad when I told them the price and he only sold direct. A couple of them ended up buying cables from Paul for their own systems and recommended them to clients. Paul was a great guy.
I later sold them off and landed with WyWires after talking with Dan Wright. The WyWires are more open, sound less closed in and made my speakers disappear, where as good as the Clear Days were, I struggled with them on that task. Not sure the WyWires really warmed things up, but I did feel the Clear Days were a tad cooler, and maybe a little thin in comparison.
You didn’t mention you interconnects, which would be helpful to know. |
Aftermarket cables for headphones is an easy way to test silver vs copper cables. I've done it before and there is a difference. I think you’re a bit out of your depth here. Silver cables can sound like copper and vice versa — all depends on the overall implementation. Hearing a difference between a couple headphone cables is not proof of anything. In any event, overgeneralizing and telling someone to just avoid silver cables is misleading and could cause the OP to ignore some outstanding options, which would be a shame. |

The difference is slight, but it exists. If you wish to test it on your system..ask a dealer to loan you a cable to try out/swap between what you're already using.

I also have a REGA ISIS Valve cdp/DAC. REGA OSIRIS integrated amp and new HARBETH 30.2 XD’s.
With the new HARBETHs, my upgrade path that worked for me just as you asked (warmer, more presence …) was to upgrade from an all NORDOST FREY cables loom to CARDAS CLEAR XLR ICs first.
The CARDAS CLEAR Speaker cables were the next to follow in good form but the largest impact was from the ICs.
The last piece in progress will be CARDAS CLEAR BEYOND power cables (demoed but not bought yet)

I have Clear Day double shotguns in 2 systems, if my memory serves me correctly Paul mentioned to me that he thought that the cables were better suited with tube amplification.

Improved conductivity does not cause colorations, or added brightness.
What improved conductivity, dielectrics and construction methods SHOULD do, in any cable, is allow one to better hear what's either right or wrong, upstream.

My Harbeth C7s respond very well with a larger gauge copper,11 or 12 gauge rather than 14 or smaller. They sound fuller,warmer,and seem to have a bigger soundstage. I stumbled upon this trying two pairs of 13 g from amp to speakers. Any high quality copper with good connectors would be worth an audition.
The best I've found for my specific system (Aric Audio tube amp) are 11g ZenWave copper ribbons.
I'm also a big fan of Paul's(R.I.P.)Clear Days.

Agreed. I've had Clear Day, Tempo Electric, Cabledyne, and now Darwin cables and they're all silver and none sounded bright. They can sound as full bodied as copper as well.

I am a prior owner (and lover) of Clear Day Double Shotgun bi-wire speaker cables, and a current owner of pure silver Audio Note SPx bi-wire. Neither were/are brighter than copper, or other multi-alloy cabling I have owned. |
Avoid anything that is silver-plated.

I had (and still do) a pair of Clear Day double shotgun speaker cables. When I needed something warmer, I went to Cardas Clear Reflection.
Having written that, I do suggest you hold on to your Clear Days. You might find down the road you have an amp/speaker combination that benefits from a little less warmth and the Clear Days will be just the ticket. I think Clear Day wire is very very good and compares favorably to much more expensive cable. Paul is missed. |
