SACD players that will consistantly read the SACD layer of a hybrid disk?

Just what the headline says.

jusam

My Denon DVD 5900 ceased SACD playback some time ago.

The Youtube laser adjustment / replacement how to seemed straight forward.  With only eight SACD's it's just not enough incentive.

I assume you have tried cd cleaners with little brushes that clean the laser. They have fixed a few of my friends players, one of mine in the past.

IF you have a player you really like the sound of:

Check on hifishark, your model(s). see if replacement head assemblies are readily available.

My Sony xa5400

Most pc shops or small electronic shops can replace them.

Replacing just the laser, calibrating it, that’s tricky.

I replaced one myself, got it to read stnd layer, but could not get it calibrated to find and play the sacd layer.

Thanks for your thoughts and experience.  Mine have been poor with several SACD players defaulting the to redbook layer too often.  Sony, Oppo, Pioneer, Marantz......

I hope I'm not cursing it but my Sony has never failed. By contrast my Marantz got less and less reliable as time passed and eventually gave up the ghost .

If used, you want one lightly used, because the lasers do get progressively weak, then they start not finding the SACD layer.

Oppo players have a menu option that lets you prioritize which layer you want to play first.

Any properly functioning SACD player should have no problem. Take your pick.
