RIP SRV

34 years ago today music lost a prodigy at the beginning of his prime.  Truly grateful for the sound he created.  God’s speed Stevie.

Gosh how time flys, yet how his legend has endured. I was just telling a friend that I got to see him perform in Denver as the opening act for the Moody Blues. He blew the crowd away and performed three encores because the crowd couldn’t get enough. His 3 piece band was setup in the shadow of the Moody’s drum set, but they rocked. A memory that I had no idea at the time, would become one of my most treasured concert experiences.

Lucky to have seen him live !

One of the best ever....   was playing an original copy of Couldn't Stand the Weather the other night .   Why he's not on Rolling Stones top 10 is a mystery to me.

I'd take that trade.

The only problem is, it wouldn't have been a trade. You'd be losing two guitar greats, not just one. Clapton was supposed to be on the helicopter along with Stevie, not instead of him.

I was fortunate to catch him live after he’d cleaned up, touring the In Step album. Gone was the cocky, badass gunslinger. He was so warm, sweet and humble. His playing was as fiery as ever but elevated by a powerfully spiritual vibe that, for me reached a sublime peak in "Life Without You". He made the most of a short life -- I see that as victorious, not tragic.
