There are solutions to be found in the “outer vinyl sleeve” thread. I suggest you read it.
Rhino High-Fidelity record jackets
I just got 3 Doors titles on Rhino High Fidelity - they sound great, but the records fit into the jackets so tightly that it's a real struggle taking them out to begin with, and then putting them back in is even worse; I've already got a tear in one of the inner sleeves from jamming it in.
Anybody else have this problem and figure out a good solution? I've never experienced this with any other LP's, going back to the 60's, except for these Rhino High Fidelity ones.
@lewm - I have read it and I do use outer sleeves, and that has nothing to do with the point I'm bringing up here. I'm talking about record jackets - the cardboard with the cover and that, that goes into the outer sleeve. |
@lewm is referring to placing the sleeved record in an outer jacket protector, not trying to put the sleeved record back in the jacket. I've used this practice for years, less friction (which causes static), less wear and tear on the jacket itself. I've tried numerous aftermarket jacket sleeves and inner sleeves- my preference these days has been the Sleeve City oversized outer jacket sleeve (can accommodate a double LP with room to spare) and presents like Mylar- clear and stiff, rather than a hazy "bag." Out of all the various "audiophile" inners I've used, I found that the Japanese round bottom ones seem to shed the least. Good luck. |
Apparently you did not read the posts that describe double-sleeve jackets where you can put the album cover in one slot and the LP in its inner sleeve in a separate second slot. Thereby the LP is secured behind, not inside, the album cover, and you don’t need to be inserting the LP into its too tight album cover. Some one or two guys even provided a URL to take you to the sellers. |
The Rhino High Fidelity are really tight. One can always keep the sleeved record in the middle of the gatefold. The new ECM Luminescence series jackets have the same problem, and those have gatefold jackets too. I use 5mil outer sleeves on all my single and gatefold jackets, but I won't store my discs on the outside of the jacket. I consider that too risky for damage to disc surfaces. I have too many records and move them around often enough to make room for more. Jackets are designed to protect discs, so that's how I use them. I have discovered the more I un-sleeve and re-sleeve these Rhino and ECM albums the more they loosen up a bit and become easier to deal with. |
+1...Absolutely agree! Never understood it... |
I use a generic jacket with a hole cut out to protect the backside and keep all original liners and other paper ephemera that have artifact value. No risk of damage to record; in fact, you can more easily remove and resleeve without damage without trying to shove the resleeved record back into the jacket. Downside is that the "package" as a whole takes up more shelf space. But it’s a personal choice. |
