REL T7x or T5x for Small Room

Two subs are much better than one…four better than two. So big, not necessary better.

IME imaging does not suffer at all with a down firing sub woofer. Adding a couple of subs is a great way to go. To the OP, in your room size, i would probably start with one T5x and then see if you can add another. 

I was in same position, and dealer asked me to try T/9i which surprised me, but it works great...one sub can work great if you have a single listening position and the flexibility to place the subwoofer where it sonically needs to be (I was told this by the 4 sub guys, and it works in my situation)...mains are Maggie LRS...

I just ordered 2 T5x units.  If ordered through REL you have 60 days to evaluate.  I have a feeling that I will be going with 2.

My second system is in a 10x10 room; Harbeth P3esr 40th anniversary. I tried a REL t7i. Too much bass. Sent it back a got a T5i. Much better results.

OP, adding a second sub is going to be a bigger exercise in placement and set up than just one. You have to really dial in two subs to get them to work, and even though the REL's are simple enough to dial in when single, when you double up, it is exponentially more difficult to get the blend right, IMO. Keep on adjusting and you will get there, but don't expect it to be drop in and go.

My room is 12" x 18" x 9.5" and I use 4 subs.

Two Rel T5's, one Rel T7 and an SVS SB2000. 

There is no such thing as overkill unless you crank up the subs too much.

Just like you really can't have too many watts.

It won't affect the imaging, but bass in a small room is a beast. 

My honest recommendation is:

• Forget a sub
• Add an EQ
• Use floor to ceiling GIK tri-traps or soffit traps.

REL recently released a new small sub  I believe it’s called the Zero, don’t know much about it but something to consider. I think the T5 will suffice your needs and make it easier to double up in the future if you desire. 
Yes with proper placement the T5 will be enough for your room…

Pair of REL T5/Xs works quite well with my 10'x16' room.  These accentuates just enough bottom end of the SHL5+. I've got the RELs about 8" off from each corner walls. No need to aim towards MLP since they are down-firing drivers. This was confirmed by REL support. I'm amazed how nice they complement the overall soundstage. Unplugging the speakons on both subs during playback tells you right away that something is missing. They just sound right with them on. No bloat. 

Once you run them in with the recommended track from Sneakers ST, stream John Williams' album At The Movies - the album tracks will help you exhibit the clarity and musciality of bass done right.

That said, don't expect the bone-shattering effect like a 15" HT sub would do, but there are certain tracks that the T5/Xs - to my surprise - rattled the windows.

Thanks to everyone for your recommendations.  I went with a pair of the T5x's and I am very pleased with the results.  They add substance to the recordings.  I am working on getting them set properly and just received "Sneakers".
