Recommended speaker for second system

My son´s apartment system needs an upgrade ,  He is using sunfire HRs speakers  and I would like to give him a better choice .  The amplifier he is using is the Marantz  PM 7000N Integrated Amplifier .  What will be your recommendation for a good speaker pair  under  $1200, ( bookshelf ) Regards

Vandy VLR's. They should be placed near corners (like a bookshelf speaker) for bass reinforcement.
I use them in my office with a pair of HSU subs and a pair of McCormack Micro amps and preamp. Even without subs, they go pretty low.
PM me for details.

I just bought the Canton Reference 3 DC Speakers and loved them but they are towers, Accessories4Less has a brand new pair of the Canton Reference Bookshelf for $1200 shipped:

They also have the KEF LS50 Mini Monitors also new for $899 shipped.

I have a pair of the Canton Vento Reference 9.2 DC speakers. Beautiful speakers, fairly neutral, surprising bass for their size. They're a bargain at the current price at accessories4less.
If you're looking used, with that budget, your son should be able to find some very nice bookshelve speakers. Enjoy the hunt!
If he sells the HRSs, I would be interested.  Does he have the stands?  I always loved those speakers.

Check out Monitor Audio Silver 100s.  At $1050, they are on budget and brilliant.  I would take the HRSs on trade, but my cheapest speaker would still be way too much.
If you can find a Dynaudio Excite X14, that is a great choice. Unlike many Dyn’s, it is easier to drive than most (better efficiency, less impedance swing). They were available for $800 or $900 as of a few months ago.

I like Spendor best, but their bookshelfs go for about $1700 new. Used always a possibility or old clearance. I picked up Spendor SA1 mini monitors new from Audiogon seller for around $1300 within last six months. Good luck.

If I may, how is the Marantz 7000n working out? It’s a lot of features for the $1k cost, and I’ve liked the recent Marantz sound. Heos is solid in my experience, and I like how the amplification et al. sounds in Marantz AVRs in general, so I’m assuming this 2 ch unit would be good also.
