Problem: DAC or streamer San Francisco east bay help

This is addressed to my audiophile neighbors. A while back my Innousdisplayed: DAC disconnected. I tried everything under the sun to figure out the problem. Innous thinks it's a DAC issue. Ben at MOJO Audio doesn't agree. Is there anyone out there between El Cerrio and North Oakland/Lakeshore who has a streaming system that I may bring my DAC to. I called Music Lovers Audio, agreed to pay them to check my DAC there. They said no. Sending the DAC back will bev expensive not to mention the cost of service. Yes, Innous will probably agree to a remote meeting. The easiest and most hassle free solution is what I'm requesting.Anyone? Thank you so much.

Did this happen after a firmware update? How is the streamer connected to the DAC…USB? Have you tried resetting the streamer? Or better yet, what have you tried to troubleshoot this problem? Tried connecting a laptop to the DAC via usb to see if the laptop recognizes the DAC?

My Dad is experiencing a similar problem with his streamer after Auto update. No longer recognizes his DAC. Works with other DACs but no longer sees the Mc amp.

I think it may be the streamer. It’s the source that must recognize the DAC. I can take his streamer, put it in my system and it works. Qobuz from a PC works via USB.

If the streamer works on another DAC but not yours after an Innuos update , and if a PC works with the DAC via USB it really points to the streamer.

Make sure the sound output on the laptop is changed to usb. Otherwise it will play thru laptop speakers. You can also try ipad or any tablet or smart phone. If no sound, it’s the dac. End of story.

- Install dac's  driver on PC/laptop. Plug dac into PC with a USB cable..

- IF dac works with PC, the dac is good (which is most probably the case)

- Try a factory reset on Innuos. If that doesn't work, return Innuos and get your money back....If you are past the return period, send it in for warranty repair.

You can also install Audirvana (or similar software) on the PC. Audirvana will automatically recognise the dac if it is connected via USB.

@bander I have an Innuos streamer that is connected to an integrated amp with a built-in DAC.  The connection is via a USB cable.  If you haven’t already tried this, after power cycling the Innous, unplug the USB cable from the DAC and after a few moments reconnect to force a re-synch.

@bander

I have a streaming system which I can help; however I am a couple hours from the East Bay.  You can message me if you want to bring your DAC.

I live in Pleasanton and would be happy to help.  You can message me directly if you like.

@g9taylor -- Just a heads up.  Be prepared for the Audigon Moderators to pounce on any Direct Message between Members that has ANY information that the Mods deem as personal "Contact Data", i.e., home addresses, telephone numbers, etc.  I've had messages deleted which claimed were violating the rules about sharing personal data.  None of the messages came close to sharing addresses or phone numbers -- I had to send follow-up questions to the Mods asking, "Are you confusing my messages with someone else's messages?", because it made no sense.  As best as I can tell, Audiogon believes any shared contact information is someone trying to transact a business sale and cut Audiogon out of the sales process.  I just wanted you to be prepared if you had trouble with Direct Messages.

@bander

My pleasure.   I hope you get the issue figured out.  Very nice of you, g9, to offer assistance.  That made my day seeing the offer of help.

You might want to consider purchasing an inexpensive DAC that has the same inputs as your current DAC for testing purposes. If that DAC is recognized and works with your streamer using the same interface you will know for sure that the issue is with your DAC.  You could also try out other types of connections between the DAC and your streamer.

You can buy inexpensive Topping DACS on Amazon and Schiit Audio has  inexpensive DAC's.  You can either return the DAC that you try it or use it as spare while decide what you are going to do if your current DAC is bad.

It never hurts to have spare equipment around.  Good Luck.

Were you able to solve this problem, finally? I am local to you (just north of Albany) if you still need to try out the DAC/streamer experiment. I have an Innuos PulseMini in my system. It does seem that the difficulties of sharing personal information might be an obstacle, though.

@Cooper.  Thank you! I'd love to bring the DAC to you.

Are you on US Audio Mart?

Here's the latest. Another generous member offered to have me bring My DAC to him. He's only 10 minutes away. My MOJO DAC is working just fine. So glad that was figured out. Thanks to all of you for weighing in and thanks to @g9taylor and @cfa88 for your  generous in home offer!
