Praise for excellent service from Oppodigital

My trusty Oppodigital 980 DVD player died on me several months ago. I finally sent it in for repair and got it back a week later. They repaired the unit and updated it to the latest firmware and shipped it back for a most reasonable fee. The quality of the work, the speed of the repair and everything was World Class. A lot of companies could learn a thing or two from them.

I had a similar and impressive experience with Oppo Service recently regarding a 105D (Darbee) Edition player purchased in June that for some reason was having significant video and audio drop-out issues on its second HDMI output port and only very seldom on the first HDMI output. Oppo took the player in with a minimal information, did not require me to truck it over to my dealer for 'inspection' about 110 miles away and turned around a response within a week of receiving it, all the while putting out email alerts to tell me when they received it, when they started and when they finished work.

They were unable to diagnose the issue to a single item to be repaired or replaced so they shipped me a brand new, sealed box unit, no questions asked.

World Class Customer Service and Technical Support....A++++++
Contrast the above story with my experience with McIntosh. I purchased a demo MVP-871 (CD/DVD) from Magnolia A/V. McIntosh refused to warranty it. It failed almost immediately but Magnolia allowed me to trade in my P.O.S MVP-871 for a new Oppo 105D. Lucky me. Thanks Magnolia!
I lost the remote to my Oppo BDP-93 in my move to Fla. I informed Oppo of this, offering to pay for it, and they sent me a brand new remote free of charge, incl. shipping. Oppo's customer service is the best I've ever encountered and I will only buy Oppo players...

Did McIntosh not honour the warranty because you got it from Best Buy? Its hard to imagine they would refuse service on something that should be covered.
ZD542,

No need to imagine. It happened! I still have a Mac MX-120 pre and an MC275 Mk6. However, my enthusiasm for Mcintosh products has diminished. You needn't defend McIntosh to me, I still have faith in their pre/power products. Reliability of their digital products is a question mark. I am certain that my experience is not unique. If you doubt it, start a thread to find out.
I will also add that Oppo has exemplary customer service. My 105 was acting up a bit after 1.5 yrs so they paid for shipping (it's a 2 yr warranty) BOTH ways but while they did the full updates there was still one 'hard to repeat at the shop' issue that was still intermittent when I received it back. Again they paid for all shipping (including return of mine to them again)and sent me a brand new machine; all the while being very patient and helpful via telephone and e-mails. I could not ask for ANY better service. Highly recommended.
Yep, me too. I bought a used modded BDP-83 which stopped reading discs after a couple of years. Oppo determined the mods had messed up the transport and replaced the entire transport mechanism and charged me $79 including return shipping!
When my $3000 modded Sony 9100 stopped reading discs a while back, no one locally (Seattle) would even touch it, including the modder. I sold it for next to nothing. I replaced it with the 83 and a NAD M51 DAC, and lately with a 103D as a transport. I've owned 6 Oppo players at all levels, and they are the class act in disc spinners, IMO.
