Praise for Old School Voltage Regulators

Today we seem to have had a transformer fire near my home.  For about a minute the lights flickered like an old school ghost movie.  My old school Furman voltage regulator clicked and the incoming voltage LED's showed me that we were having bad brown outs.

On the other side of the regulator I have another Furman with a voltage display.  It never budged and my TV and audio never showed there was any problem at all.

By "old school" I mean it uses a transformer and relays to keep the outgoing voltage stable.  It's more expensive than a basic power conditioner but much less expensive than a PS Audio power plant.  Also, it doesn't generate a lot of noise on the output.  It's very efficient for your wallet and the power.

Of course, after about a minute of this I still turned everything off out of an abundance of caution.  Half an hour later when the flickering was totally gone I started again.
