Thanks for the clarification :)
Phono Cable Recommendations
Just curious what are you using for a phono cable and what was the price?
I have a DIY Helix cable (big thread on this cable on Cable forum) from the TT to Phono preamp. It sounds great but picking up RFI. Yes everything is grounded :) I have a Morrow Audio PH3 and tried it as it has shielding but doesn’t sound very good or near as well as the Helix. Was thinking of a Morrow PH6 ($599 retail) which is a step below the PH7 at $1K. Have a VPI Classic 1 with a Dynavector 20x2L and a Manley Labs Chinook SE MKII preamp FYI.

@samzx12, Good call, AE phono cable is super quiet, fast and offers superior shielding. I am currently using AE’s analog cables (IC, Speaker and Power Cables) in my system. Please post your feedback once you had a chance to listen (allow atleast 25-30 hours for cable to settle in your system). Enjoy! |

I am using Audio Envy Phono Deluxe (DIN>RCA), $268 for 4FT. https://audioenvy.com/product/home-car-pro-interconnects/phono-deluxe-matched-pair/ https://forum.audiogon.com/discussions/audio-envy-dang |
I use Silnote, it replaced a Morrow PH4. Silnote is low capacitance and shielded. https://www.mcssl.com/store/silnoteaudio/morpheus-reference-iii-rca-phono-cables |
I'm partial to Synergistic. Since you are DIY however you might want to try converting your phono IC to Active Shielding. All you will need is a Synergistic Active Shielding wall wart (or other 30VDC power supply) a couple resistors, a couple caps, and 2m battery ground strap. Slide each phono lead inside, solder the resistor and cap in series with the strap and power, carefully secure the strap so it extends all the way to the very end of each RCA - but no further. This may eliminate your RFI even without power. With power it will massively improve just about any interconnect. Or speaker cable. Or power cord. But it is hard to find battery strap large enough for those. If it works and you like it then have Michael Spallone mod the power supplies with better diodes and caps and your jaw will drop. |
