Parasound JC2 compatibility with Quicksilver v4's

I had a JC2 and sold it immediately. I didn't think it was good. I currently have a Jeff Rowland Corus preamp and it's significantly better in every conceivable way...tonality, imaging, soundstage, bass, everything!

Meaning the dealer is afraid you will not be happy because your preamp is not going to let the QS sing. And if you are not happy, his business suffers.

No matter what I think, I do agree with Charles. The only way to determine your preference is with your own ears.

Charles is correct. Take the preamp over and give it a try. The v4's are very unassuming but sound musical, natural, detailed. Just right. They do require good wire. And, I prefer them with KT 88s. I have tried several preamp as well as direct from my DAC. It took a CJ ET 5 to better the direct connection. Yet Quicksilver's line stage without the remote is another hidden secret. Get the amps and take your time finding the right preamp.

take your pre amp to the dealer/retailer for the ultimate decision on wether or not it sounds great.  I will add that a Conrad Johnson pre-amp would not hurt.  Happy Listening!

did you demo a CJ ET-3 or ET-3 SE preamp prior to the ET-5 ?

FWIW, I suggest you consider the reverse of your current plan: get a good, tube preamp and pair it with a good SS power amp. This arrangement will give you the advantages inherent in both modes of amplification. And, again FWIW, the Parasound JC-2 preamp has gotten GREAT reviews from most of the major hi-fi mags. The other writers in this thread are correct: take your JC-2 with you to the dealer to test with the Quickie.

I don't know what speakers you're using but I would make the effort to hear them with the Quicksilver V4. If you're really happy with this match I'd be cautious  about reversing to tube preamplifier and SS amplifier. If you find the V4 the sound you've been looking for,  a SS amplifier will be hard pressed to Sound the same (even fronted by a tube preamp). They're not the same,  I'd strongly recommend that you listen to both approaches and decide by simply  trusting your ears. There's no substitute for actually listening when this is possible to do so.   The speaker's design  characteristics and load (ohms) will determine which type of amplifier is the better match for it.  You have to listen and go with the one that moves you the most.

Sounds like BS from a dealer who wants to sell you a preamp.  I use my JC 2 with a pair of JC 1 mono blocks, but then I don't care for tube artifacts.  Both the JC 1 and 2 have gotten rave reviews and A ratings by Stereophile.

An "A" rating from Stereophile doesn't necessarily mean good sound 
The dealer could have been expressing his sincere opinion which another listener may or may not agree with. Hopefully Rob can take his preamp to the dealer and hear for himself.Both tubes and transistors have sonic  artifacts, they're just different in nature.
