Moving up????

Why not just buy a Danny Ritchie speaker? If a guy’s budget is restricted to 1k - 4k, he should do himself a favor and buy a Danny Ritchie or Andrew Jones speaker (forget about all the other crap out there in that price bracket).

I have a speaker sitting right next to a Danny Ritchie speaker that costs 30 fold and another one that costs 60 fold. I can vouch for the stuff that comes from Danny or Andrew.

For rock music one of my top choices by far would be ATC, and in your price range the SCM40s would be at the top of my list, period.  There are actually a couple pair available here now for around $4k, so you could try them and if they don’t work out you can turn around and sell them.  Here’s the Sound Approach link but Music Direct also sells them and offers a more generous 60-day return policy although the terms aren’t clear on the website.

@robshaw Tyler Acoustics has been in business for at least over 20 years.  Back around 2000 I took a road trip to visit his workshop and over the years bought several pairs of his speakers.  He’s excellent to do business with, his cabinetry is first rate, prices are really good for what you get, and the speakers sound great, though I have not heard the latest models.  I can heartily recommend Tyler.

Thanks to all, I really appreciate it. I love my Tekton DI's, hard to beat them for my Rock and Roll music.  There are so many choices out there. I just looked at Sound Advice per recommendations, on the Usher Mini 2, as it's in my price range. Never really heard of them. I have dealt with Sound Advice before and really like them. I bought an ATI 6002 AMP from them a year or so ago, and it's OUTSTANDING!!!  Somewhat hooked on TEKTON from my current experience, just looking for a little more, wondering if it really exists, or as my wife generally states, YOUR NUTS!  I hate to say it, but, she is usually right, PS she loves the DI's.  By the way an earlier post thought R&R was rest and relaxation, he was probably right, so I will spell out the next time, ROCK and ROLL, my error, sorry. Thanks again all!

Just a thought, but have you considered a road trip? Here and there over the decades I've been in this hobby I've taken a trip to hear speakers that I've been considering.   It's paid off both ways -- finding a prize and avoiding a mistake.

The only criticism of this approach is that you don't get to hear them with your room's acoustics, but I've always been able to pick up the fundamental character of the speakers.

Of course, it depends on where you live and where you have to go to hear the speakers -- a couple hundred mile round trip in a car is one thing while adding air fare, car rental and hotels adds a whole 'nother cost factor.

Heard good things about Tyler speakers but have never heard them in person, but I’m sure they’re very good. If it’s me I’d look at the Usher Mini Two Diamond as it’s in the same price/spec ballpark, and the Usher speakers I’ve heard are outstanding in sound, looks, and value and unfortunately fly way under the radar here in the US. They’re one of the few manufacturers that make their own drivers, and as such the Mini Two offers the same diamond tweeter (read: not beryllium) that’s offered in their $40k flagship speaker. This dealer seems to offer a similar return policy as Tyler (although it’s 30 days) and may be worth checking out. Not made in the US but just another high-value option to consider, and best of luck.

Is R&R rest and relaxation?  I definitely use speakers for R&R.  I like Dynaudio but they are Danish.  I suppose any good soft dome tweeter design would work. I don’t know much about Tyler Acoustics but they seem to use soft domes which is a plus in my book.  

@robshaw - I don’t have experience with the Tyler Acoustic models you are focused on , but I did previously have both the Lindbrook System 2s and Taylo 7’s . The build quality was there and they very pleasing sounding. I passed them onto 2 different younger folks I know along with some other equipment to get them "started". Also, I found Ty easy to communicate with. I don't know where you are in TN and if Owensburg KY is a practical distance for a possible trip to hearing them at Ty's. Good luck if you decide to get them.

I like Danny.  But like everyone else, he's in it to make a living.  Never blindly accept everything you hear from people--including all the highly respected manufactureres and sellers who post here.  I like all of them but know they have bias.
