Did any of the forum people try and order anything from Magnepan ?? I had one of my new Magnepan 1.7 I speaker socks get damaged, I called the dealer I bought them from and he said I had to call Magnepan direct and order it, he also said they had a new phone system which they don't answer very well, after calling them for over two weeks I could see nobody was ever going to answer or return a requested return call.......I called the dealer back, but it doesn't seem he can get one either.......I live a 100 south of Spokane , Washington.....These speakers are about a year old, one sock is dirty.......Come get them 1000.00, speakers , boxes and stands........And I promise to never buy another Magnepan or anything Magnepan makes......W
Right, use email! I never use the phone. Magnepan will get you a new sock or you can have them made from any thin stretchy fabric. My wife made me a set for my old Acoustats.
I live in Spokane. My dyslexia saw $100 and I was ready to DM you immediately. Sorry about your luck with the telephone answering service. Hopefully an email will work. And if you’re still that Peed off my hundred dollar offer still stands. L O L.
Actually I have a buyer for 300.00 , boy they really hold there value, but they are a year old with one dirty sock.......Its funny I can call Audio Research and get a part delivered in less than a week, but Audio Research is a lot better quality, I guess you get what you pay for ?? Cheap speakers...........W
Why doesn't Magnepan service there customers, how simple can it be to answer the phone or call me back, I would give them a credit card number and they could send the part ??? Or sell it to my Magnepan dealer so he could send it to me, but they wouldn't do that.......So I call and ask for the sales department, I get a salesman and he tells me he will make "Mick" calls me the next day, three days later someone calls and lets the phone ring twice and hangs up, I call back and get the answering machine......I leave a message, nothing happens, I call back, nothing happens.......How can you like that kind of service ?? They don't care and I don't care.....I thought that was what Forums were for.......You get the "white sock" and I'll pay you twice what it costs you...........W
Tony: One of the things that used to make American great were us as American's were improving anything and everything....Now we are always looking for way to get out of something, years ago they would get rid of anybody that couldn't do there job ........Or wouldn't do there job as is this case.......But we are becoming a second rate country because nobody is accountable for poor service or a poor job......You have a whole class of people that think everything is just OK.......But nothing runs right Fed-ex is always late, UPS looses stuff, orders get lost, Parts are defective.....Its a real mess trying to do a proper job, nobody cares..............That's the problem.............When I started this "thread" I was pretty happy to fix my Magnepan speakers, but I couldn't get answers, I couldn't get parts, and I couldn't get anyone who cared if I ever repaired my Magnepans.....I paid good money for them I didn't want anything free, just a little effort getting me my parts to fix them.........Everybody goes to the defense of Mick at Megnepan but Mick doesn't do his job, and if he did I wouldn't be so mad......Mick has a attitude and that's his problem, and if he cared he would handle this so Magnepan wouldn't get all the bad PR its getting from this, Mick should go to business school and learn Public Relations........And the Magnepans 1.7I will go in the dump..........
Sir: I have completely giving up on these speakers, I would gladly sell them for 1000.00 and call it good............Magnepan is not the company they once were and that's why they are not doing well.......If you can't service your customers, your customers will not support you and you will fail.......I feel sorry for the pour dealer that will lose another customer over this........And people like Mick are the people that can cause companies to lose business.........Deal with a company like Wilson Audio and you will see the best in customer service.......But that's the difference..............W
That is too bad how a once great company does not communicate/service with its customers. I have noticed this trend with many other companies as well. I don't know if it is because of a shortage of workers or that we have just accepted this behavior. We shouldn't
In contrast, Bruce Thigpen---maker of the great alternative to Maggies with his Eminent Technology LFT-8b and 8c loudspeakers---answers the phone himself. He will even advise you on how to upgrade his stock x/o with higher-cost (and presumably sounding) parts. The LFT-8b x/o schematic is available for viewing on the ET website, for those who are technically inclined.
As for grill cloth: Maggies have their cloth stapled onto the MDF speaker frame; the ET LFT-8b and 8c have removable grill frames, for ultimate sound quality listening sessions. The LFT-8b is about the same price as the Magnepan MG1.7i ($3200 including shipping vs. $3000), and imo considerably better sounding (I compared the two). Some prefer the 8b to the Magnepan MG3.7i, at less than half the price.
Ozzy............We have removed ourselves by not communicating eye to eye anymore, and telephone systems that remove people from there jobs.....People get used to not talking with people because they don't feel like it.........We have in the town I live in one of the largest makers of Switches in the US......They advertise that someone will answer the phone any time you call in the business hours.....Look at the time alone that is saved.....Person calls , tell the parts department what they want, jobs done , 5 minutes .............We can't and don't make anything anymore.....Could we make a B-17 in 3 hours, no not even 3 years...That's what we can do....We can't even answer the phone and take a order..............That's why Magnepan is in trouble............W
I do not understand why I see so many comments dumping on "America this America that". After a lot of buying and selling gear I have ended up with 2 systems and 1 headphone system that are mostly American made.
My Magnepan LRS+ is the best speaker I have had in my small office (paired with another American amp, the Magtech). The delta with the next best and the Maggie + Magtech is not even close. I do not even say "for the money".
My Livingroom system is anchored by another set of great American brands, CODA + Benchmark.
My headphone gear is all American made Schitt gear and the phones are 50% American made.
When I look for audio gear, my experience has made me look at American gear first.
