Another fantastic musician has passed away.  Very sad...

This decade has been brutal, and it's not even halfway over. I can't help but wonder who'll be next. Dylan will be the monumental one, for me at least.

Youngbloods were San Fran based yet not really part of that scene. Loved the vibe of that group, and subsequent releases by Jesse. RIP

Saw him in ’78 with B. Raitt at the Santa Barbara County Bowl. Good times. For me, the passing away of such artists has become symbolic of so much that I care about that is now being flushed down the proverbial toilet.

“Get Together” is one of those seminal songs from the era that just instantly takes me back to my childhood, and it did so again today.  RIP.

In the 70’s there was a concerted effort to make “Get Together” the national anthem.

it didn’t get far but was an inspired idea.

Interestingly, Dino Valenti of Quicksilver Messenger Service actually wrote the song under an assumed name.

Yes.

Jesse Colin Young lived around here for over 20 years, moving to Hawaii after losing his house & studio in the Mount Vision Fire of 1995.  I saw him do several solo sets in the 80s & 90s.  This particular time, he opened for the Rowan Brothers at the Sausalito Art Festival on 9/4/93.  He/they were just standing in a wide spot along the main path through the art exhibit, playing through their monitors.  Footnote: David Grisman Quintet played on the main stage that day.  All local groups, playing glorious acoustic music.

Through the miracle of Youtube, here's Jesse & Jackson Browne sharing a mic to Get Together at No Nukes in 1979 with Steve Stills, Graham Nash, and thousands of others:

Thanks petaluman. Beautiful and sad. Wish any large and diverse group of people today could get together and have that feeling of brotherhood, just for 5 minutes.
