I do buy musical artifacts. I prefer for instance Rolex or Patek instead of cash. Sometimes I like diamonds and certainly do like firearms, not because of their violent nature, but because of their overall value.

It is better to buy a real significant book with a new insight than a Rolex...I will be ashamed to own one as i will be ashamed to own any "flashy" deLuxe object ... Why not the first corvette model? Or better a Bugatti 1934 ?

i just can suggest two completely different life changing books anyway , one about mammals and the other about the mathematics of artificial consciousness...

I can be a "snob" too...And i want to see if you had curiosity out of Rolex...

It seems most people think they had see and know what a mammal is and they dont give a damn about artificial consciousness ... They all want a Rolex ...But perhaps not "most" only some...

No one notices your watch, including my Rolex. 

It is a signifier only to idiots, like so many other good material things. Rolex is the watch to take anywhere where you need a reliable time showing piece.

Rather than a person of taste.

A Rolex is just a social class signifier to alert others that you are a person of means.

Too bad that the $80K DarTZeel NHB - 18NS preamp can't be worn on the wrist to show what a bad-ass dude you are! That's what expensive hifi components are - social signifiers to show that you belong to the in-crowd!

Who needs a watch when a phone is far more useful?  A Rolex is just a social class signifier to alert others that you are a person of means.
