Is Burmester 232 worth the price?

Just bought a Burmester 232 integrated amplifier for a hefty price tag. Similar priced models like Accuphase E800 are available for half off on eBay.

Did I make a good decision or should I have gone with Accuphase or Esoteric? Pointers are greatly appreciated. Why is Burmester considered ultra high end?

According to Perplexity, the upgraded 6 sn7 tubes are better than the stock 12sn7 if you prefer a warmer sound

Everyone I’ve seen who upgraded to the better tubes was very happy so think you made the right choice there.

You get your pick on output tubes you want to hear (tonal change) by selecting one over the other via a toggle switch on the rear of the LTA Aero DAC:

The LTA DAC Aero has a toggle switch on the back panel primarily for changing between 6SN7 and 12SN7 output tubes

This switch allows you to choose the correct heater voltage for either type of tube, as they have identical electrical characteristics but different voltage requirements.

Important notes on using this switch:

  • Only perform this operation while the Aero is turned off.
  • Ensure the switch is set to the correct position for the tubes you are using to avoid potential over-current protection or other undesired behavior.

@soix  And now, onto the last piece of the puzzle. Can you tell me a good speaker cable brand for my 232 so I can complete the setup. Thanks.

Dude, yesterday you couldn’t afford a new DAC but today you spent $4K on one but only if they would ship it today. Then you ask for advice on speaker cables and 5 minutes later say never mind I bought some Wireworld’s.

let me save everyone here sometime time and energy; You have an awesome system and are making perfect choices.

The only advice I can give you is no matter how good your system is, it will suck when anyone else hears it on a Facebook video.

btw what kind of car do you drive? Again?

The OP is a man of action, that's for sure, but he's buying good stuff. I hope he enjoys his system. He also got some really sound (pun) advice from @soix and others which I hope he found useful. This forum is at its best when that happens.

@macg19 what makes you think I could mot afford a new DAC. I drive a new Mercedes and am the super happy owner of a new Burnester. Sarcasm?

Like the previous guy said, I am a man of action although I am a ttle impulsive. But all's well that ends well. If you could hear my setup now, you would be impressed. AnI know a Facebook video won't do the sound justice but it's just my way of thanking all the wonderful people on this forum thanks. Amen!

The comment about affording a new DAC was based on your early comment about not wanting to spend too much money on your digital source.

Congrats on being the owner of a new Mercedes and 2 Burmester sound systems.

So…which one sounds best?

@madhusudan_ramaswamy yes the 232 is worth the money, the dac module is very nice as well and yes it beats the accuphase e800, chk you messages

@macg19 @ckr1969 I would say the Burnester 232 s the best purchase of my life in terms of raw  electronics quality with marantz sr 8015, Focal Kanta 3s and LG G5 being close seconds. The Japs and he Germans are the best electronics engineers in personal experience.

@devinplombier Go out man. It's Friday night. Get a life. Stupid questions eiter deserve Stupid answers or no answers.

@madhusudan_ramaswamy We stopped saying Japs sometime in the 80s, but there you are in 2025 using what is now widely considered a racial slur. And, sadly, you're impervious to sarcasm

Wow. I don’t always agree with Devin but in this case I do 1000%.

Hopefully you are just too lazy to type Japanese.

But in any any case, you started this thread with a rhetorical question, mentioned you drive a New Burmester equipped Mercedes 5 times, disregarded any advice from those that you purportedly elicited advice from, patted yourself on the back for being a man of action and of course making the correct decisions, and then closed with telling a forum member to get a life.

 Excellent work. Welcome to AG.

PS. LG is South Korean

@macg19 @devinplombier Onr last thing before I wrap up this thread. The term "Japs" was simply typed laziness, nothing more.

This thread is astonishingly useless.  Not to mention, it starts off with evaluating the sound system in a Mercedes (!) as a reference for a home audio system. Then it gets worse.

For that money one could get Grimm Audio LS1C - which would be far superior to Kanta 3s etc. Amp in built and fully tuned to the a gorgeous speaker. Heck, even Dynaudio Confidence 20A would trounce that combination.

But as others have said, subjective hobby. You bought an expensive amp because you wanted to :)

I have the optional Burmeister option in my car and I can’t believe how bad it is.  The only thing about the car I don’t like and for me it’s a big issue.

I have to think the home audio is better.    Good luck to you.

Tough crowd.

Happy for the OP. Burmester makes some excellent equipment. Of course, you’re paying a lot for the looks, build quality, and German engineering. I suspect OP will be moving up the speaker food chain in the not so distant future 😊

You get what you pay for.  After driving the Benz, would you buy a Lexus?

Only if you want class leading build quality, reliability and resale value.

Mercedes-Benz / Lexus... Burmeister / Mark Levinson.... completely different visions / objectives. Personally I am in the later camp. Not better, just different.
