I have no prejudices I think vitus or the Ma9000 could be, does anyone have this coupled?
Integrated amplifier help
InserisHelp I need advice I would like to buy an integrated amplifier to pair it with rockport avior speakers I have already tried absolare passion and trafomatic preamplifier and power amp, karan integrated without great satisfaction. Now I think taking ypsilon phaeton integrated can be an excellent match. Anyone have experience with rockport avior and ypsilon phaeton? Other ideas?ci il tuo testo ...

I have experience with the ML585 and Dartzeel Cth8550. I’ve owned a lot of very high end gear and find both to be exceptional products. I was a little biased against the ML expecting darkish and maybe somewhat boring sound. Reality is that it has beautiful highs with tight bass and mids/vocals as good as I’ve heard from any such unit. It’s grainless and very detailed. I was going to sell mine to stay on the merry go round but decided that this would be foolish. These units can be found used in the 6-7k range used(list12k). In typical ML fashion the build quality and ergonomics are stellar. The Dartzeel is great also but has a caveat or two not to mention the expense. Finally I would think that the Luxman L-509x should be considered but I keep coming back to the ML. I’ve never been more surprised at how good it sounds. In today’s high end pricing scene it’s a crazy stupid bargain at list price and folks are giving them away. FWIW |
I have no directly relevant experience. But if the impedance curve of your Avior is similar to that of the Avior II, as shown in the measurements section of Stereophile’s review, I would have my doubts that the Ypsilon Phaethon would be a suitable match. The reason I say that is that the Phaethon has a specified output impedance of 0.5 ohms, which is not much lower than that of many tube amps. And as can be seen in Stereophile’s measurements of the Avior II the speaker’s impedance is in the vicinity of only 3 ohms at most bass, mid-bass, and upper treble frequencies, and is as low as 2.6 ohms at some frequencies. 3/0.5 corresponds to a damping factor of 6! That is vastly lower than the damping factors that would be provided by almost all other amplifiers having solid state output stages, which are the kind of amps I suspect the speaker was intended to be driven with. Good luck. Regards, -- Al |
That’s ^ quite the opinion. Another opinion might be to audition the darTZeel CTH-8550 Mk2 in this category along with the Phaeton. - Colin darTZeel dealer in Nashville, TN https://gestalt.audio |
What an absolute ugly brick of an amp. When I found the absolute sound review thought at first it was some awful AVR or something. Then I saw $25k! Seriously?!?!? Oh well... For less than half that you could have more than twice that, and with out of this world beautiful looks to go with the gorgeous sound. https://www.ravenaudio.com/product/reflection-mk2/ Its not even close. Not to mention its made in Texas. |
