I want to introduce my nephew to hi end with your help!
Hi guys, my nephew will turn 20th in June in Cuba and I'll be visiting him. He is a great kid and very curious about almost everything, he is finishing his second year of medicine. He loves music and always delighted to see my equipment in photos. I had decided that it's about time for me to introduce him to a better sound appreciation that his MP3 files on PC. I want to stay on budget and specially size wise since its difficult to pass electronics trough Cuban customs without paying fees. My thoughts are. 1-PS audio Sprout 2-NAD 3020
Both small and loaded with features. I have no choice of speakers yet. Thinking on ELAC B5 or B6.
Headphones, I haven't decided yet.
I would really appreciate your inputs. Kind regards. Thanks
I don't see any problem with those 30 watt amps . The Elacs are also the same sensitivity (87db) like the Pioneer. Small speakers are never as efficient as larger ones so you really have no other choice. I think it will be just fine!
I am leaning towards the PS audio sprout with the Elac and the sennheiser HD598 headphones. Nice start for him . I own the sprout myself and I listen to it everyday with my Hi-fi man 500. Regards
Cuba? Really? The hi-end for anybody is freedom and liberty, something you will never find in Cuba. Think about getting him and his family out of Cuba while the door to the US is wide open for Cubans. Nothing beats the sweet sound of freedom and liberty and that you can only enjoy in the US.
He is studying medicine and happily there. Maybe in the future once he become an MD and he decide for himself what he wants for his future. I lived there 29 years and certainly my passion for music saved me from a lot... I will try to give him what I did never had at his age. Regards
Name any county in US where you can walk with opened can of beer and not being summoned, arrested or fined? Name any county in US where you can do same with lit up pot joint? Name any US territorial waters where you can fish unlicensed and free of any charges? In most counties prostitution isn't legal, In most counties you can't have sex in your personal vehicle! In most of these cases you can get arrested!
Can I continue?
The only reason for Cubans to move here is MONEY traded for liberties.
You may say I don't need to walk with can of beer and I don't need to walk with joint lit up and I'll pay for all of my fishing licenses etcetra, but if your children once get in trouble jailed for non-violent reasons stated above, you'll speak all totally different language about US Civil liberties or absence of such.

Everyone in America must have a terrible life then...
The B5s are smaller probbably easier to transport. He is not expecting anything like that. It would be a wonderful time. Thank you all for your advice .
When I came first to Santiago, than to Havana on sail boat, I was telling "Russo" "Russo" and was cheered and welcomed everywhere. It was indeed an Island of freedom where general population has substantially less anger to foreigners and to each other.
I know one can drink beer on the street in New Orleans. The bums in NYC drink their wine on the sidewalks, and I'll bet joints are openly smoked in San Francisco, and perhaps Portland Oregon!
