Denafrips Avatar looks the goods
I really like what I see with this Denafrips Avatar, it’s looks to have the goods inside for the money, and no dvd rom slot drive or CD rom drive used either. Two transformers lot of separate regulators, many little caps to get lower esr than just big ones. lots of different outputs.

And it uses a Philips Philips CDM4/19 swing arm laser, much better than rom drives slot or tray, just a little slower to read the TOC no biggie.

From Alvin's site, Avatar sales are suspended until further notice. The demand was too big for them to meet. It also looks like the price in USD has gone up substantially: https://www.vinshineaudio.com/shop T R A N S P O R T 2020.08.31
Ordering of the AVATAR CDT is temporarily suspended until further notice. The demand was too high, a happy business problem. For customers who ordered it previously will have their order fulfilled progressively. Please note the price of the AVATAR CDT will be revised to S$2298/US$1698. Thank you for your kind understanding. |
Please note the price of the AVATAR CDT will be revised to S$2298/US$1698. Thank you for your kind understanding. Now that is not a good thing for a company to do for their image. Just because it’s become popular. They would have been making their wanted profit margin at the old price. Because bigger orders now of parts will result in a reduction of price of them, and production cost should also be less. So if anything it should become cheaper not more expensive. Cheers George |
Guys -- it's not uncommon for audio manufacturers to have "introductory pricing." It's a viable marketing tactic that can generate buzz for a new product. In this case, the strategy appears to be working. Besides, if the Avatar is as good as the initial reviews, then it's still reasonably priced relative to the closest competitor which is Jay's Audio. |
I was looking to get one but then the repricing puts it out of my budget.Yep, 35% increase, just not justified in my books. Keep it at $1698 and you’ll do well with it. Schiit Audio threatened to bring one out, and you know that will priced to scatter the competition. And a US product with 14 day trial period, like all their stuff. Cheers George |

Yeah supply and demand usually make things cheaper, not more expensive.Nope. Not in the slightest. If you have more product than demand, then, yes, the price should come down. If you have more demand than product, then the price could go up. Also not mentioned are the supply costs for Denafrips. There's great competition amongst Chinese makes for the same products that are rebranded. It's still the wild, wild west out there's with little, to no regulation. All the best, Nonoise |
mikey8811248 posts09-10-2020 2:26am@georgehifiDon't know, but you can bet it will be cheaper with 14 day trial, and it won't be released at $1700 and then go up to $2300 just because they sell a few. These are the old Theta Digital people. They surely know how to make a good transport. And yes they (Mike Moffat) really knows his Schiit when it comes to digital. Cheers George |
“Guys”? It’s just our dear friend George 😉🤭😂 Rich from a guy that said this "I check my equipment, and find out I need eight fuses. Too much money." https://imgix.ranker.com/user_node_img/50106/1002107502/original/1002107502-photo-u1?w=375&q=60&... |
Almost 8,000 worthless posts. You would be better off spending all that time getting an actual job and making actual money. Rather than bitching about a cheap Chinese transport raising the prices by a whopping 100 bucks. As I said, go back to your thrift store. “ Your dealer “ |
mikey8811248 posts Like I said Mike Moffat (Schiit Audio) if/when he brings out a transport, should nail it, as he has Lampizator’s tick of approval in his shootout list of the best all time transports. And Mike Moffat’s Theta Data took out first place. Lampizator " The First Battle Of Transports Cheers George |
Let it go georgehifi. I’ve known lots of people who have worked hard and made a lot of money, a very large amount of money. None of them talk like thyname (note the biblical reference to the almighty). The closest I come to knowing persons with his/her attitude are trust fund babies. Almarg will always have legend status on this website. One of the best. |
He's just fine. Listen dude, I think your probably a really smart guy. That's why its so confusing why you and another poster just haven't figured out that your constant irritation with us here isn't because of us, its just that this isn't the right website for your tastes. And its really just as much of a downer for us to read your posts. Why not find your place where ever it is. We have been here a long time and like it. |
Schiit CD transport Looks like a popular subject over at the Hoffman forums. https://forums.stevehoffman.tv/threads/would-anyone-else-love-to-see-a-schiit-cd-player.885167/ Also talk at superbestaudiofriends and Audio Asylum forums as well. Cheers George |
@thyname "Lowlife my man. A single power cord of mine is worth more than your entire “system” combined. 😂😂. Yeah... I killed it. I make a lot of money you bottom feeder beaching about a 1G transport. Now... back to your next trip to a thrift store 😉" Wow, another amazing contribution from "thyname" to the discussion board. I'm done with this. |
The only, single thing I don't love is that if you hit Play on the Jay's AUdio transport is that after pausing a song, it starts the song over instead of resuming from the paused position. The pause problem will be a problem for me as I often listen to classical music which has long movements, often 20+ minutes each. This would mean I would have to look at the time on the unit (or does the pause show the time), remember it and fast forward to that time again. Is the fast forward very fast or relatively slow? Does the unit have a fast or slow reverse button, giving an alternative return to the paused location. Does it have a total disc time, number of tracks and track remaining features? Thanks since I am probably going to purchase the unit unless it is difficult to use. My EAR Acute has all of these features. What about the Avatar, does it have the same pause problem? I see that it shows the tracks. Will it be as reliable as the Jay's Audio? They appear similar in design (note the similar rows of caps, the top load and overall look). Maybe they were made in the same factory. I am using a COS Engineering D2v DAC with coax out of the EAR. |
I've upgraded to the COS Engineering D1 mk2. I tried the Cambridge CXC-clean detailed sound but lacking in fullness/bass foundation. Terrible remote. The Avatar is gone as Denafrips has no transports. Jay's Audio unit was upgraded to CD2 mk3 and has optional redbook and upsampling output. It appears to meet typical operating disc criteria I asked but did not get answered above. It's either Jay's Audio or the also unheard CEC TL5n. |
