Cost of Shipping Records

Greetings,
I just ordered 10 records from Musicdirect. Their website says free shipping for $50 or more. I understand that since I live in Alaska that offer wouldn't apply. They (MD) charged me $147.00 for shipping 10 records.
I really feel like they gouged me. I could see maybe $50 but not $147.
Has anyone else experienced such hi and unfair shipping costs?
Shipping cost prevents me from having more nice toys.
I did bite the bullet and got the 10 records. I wasn't happy about it.
Thanks for letting me vent.

Well I took a que from you good brothers and sisters here and did some internet record shopping for exactly what I want rather than just crate digging and actually found and online record shop that does not charge for shipping after a $20 or more order! Needless to say I bought about 11 albums altogether for about $4.50 a record...
Man! Now, I’m glad the only thing I can afford in vinyl is used albums by crate digging...

Just in case you weren’t paying attention, uberschmaltz. 👀 Besides, I said it first. Did You just wake up?
Give me a break. I ship records all the time. I can ship five records USPS Media Mail in a single box for about 5 or 6 bucks, depending on location. Hel-loo! Wake up and smell the coffee! ☕️
Good news indeed OP
Still spendy compared to what media mail would have been but much better in your pocket for sure!
Thats a welcome outcome @joenies I'm glad MD did the right thing. I generally find them a very fair firm to deal with, they're reversed orders I've made in error for me before now (even after they ran the card) and also dealt with these sorts of shipping issues when they've arisen. Pity these sorts of bugs seem to occur more often than with other sellers but I've no reason to believe it's anything deliberate
Greetings
I just received a email from Musicdirect. They apologized to me and said there was a problem with the shipping calculator.
MD said they would refund me $72.
I'm glad they fixed the problem.
I will do business with them in the future.
Thanks too all for their input.

That Is ridiculous and you should call MD back and insist on a refund.
How did they actually arrive would be also be of importance?
Was it express or good old ground or media mail?
Ask them to show you THEIR actual shipping cost!
My daughter is attending Alaska Pacific University and in Anchorage and we regularly send her stuff via USPS both regular and media mail and yes it is slightly more than mainland usa but $147 for 10 records?
Crazy and greedy.
i just shipped 5 x boxes of about 25 discs each via postal service media rate
$18 from Carlsbad California to Seattle
boxes 14”x14” x5”
That is a glitch in MD's system. I had to call them to request media mail. They did comply after I called. I'm surprised they haven't fixed the problem.
@joenies   WOW!  Very disappointed to hear that MD charged that much.  And... you were buying 10 albums to boot!  Even half of the amount you paid would be ridiculous.  I would go through a friend in the contiguous 48 next time!

Bad MusicDirect Bad!!😡🤬🤯
Greetings
Yes I did call them about the shipping cost. Told me that was the price. On my check out form there was only two shipping options 1. For $147 and 1. For $243. When I saw price I called them.
Maybe next time I will have them shipped to a friend in the lower 48 and then up to me.
I have shipped and received packages before but never got gouged like this.

Here is what I suspect happened. MD defaults to an express shipping option unless you actively select otherwise (even if the free shipping applies). The rate you were quoted was an express rate (i.e. USPS Priority Mail or FedEx 3 day). You should have opted for a Media Mail rate which (by my quote from the USPS web site) would have been $10-15 or so. It’s a real bug in the MD web site that they force you into this super expensive priority shipping -- many times I’ve had to call them to have them reverse this for me. Did you try calling them and having them correct it?
