Considering the BMR Philharmonic Monitor speakers

I have a pair of CSS Audio 1-TDx monitor speaker that I like very much, but have for along time considered these Monitors.  I am hoping to run them with my Don Sachs 2 preamp and a First Watt J2 amp, with 25 wpc of Class A power.  I have other more power amps, but I really love the J2.

I'd be keen to get any impressions from others about their sound and performance and your thoughts on amp pairings.

I heard them at Capital Audiofest and was very impressed.
I'm considering buying them for a second system.

As a former BMR Monitor owner, I would wholeheartedly recommend them. They have excellent resolution, imaging, and sound staging, and I found them to be tonally neutral. I ran them with a Lyngdorf TDAI-1120...a great combination.

Only sold them to go with active monitors.

Just get these and be done with it. 😜  And I think they’re in the gorgeous Sapele wood finish, so there’s that.

Thanks for the comments.  Yeah, the Pulsars are absolutely stunning speakers, in looks and performance.  I have heard them many times and loved them, but not their price.

I've heard the BMRs on multiple occasions, and they were impressive each and every time. I would have bought them on my last bookshelf speaker purchase, but there was a stock issue at the time.....and I could not get a straightforward answer on delivery times. I bought Buchardt Audio S400 MkIIs (which are brilliant).

If I were in the market for a $2,000 pair of speakers, the BMRs would be at the top of my list

Heard them and loved them.  The 180 degree dispersion of the tweeter and smaller midrange modules makes for an incredibly spacious soundstage and very nice tonality and transparency.  You hear what they are all about almost immediately.

Hard to pass over in this price range, the dude knows what h is doing.

Huh? Looks kinda similar to the wharfedale Evo 4.2.

Phillyharmonica garage guy might have copied some of wharfedale/Peter Comeau’s stuff whilst busy, not innovating anything in his garage,.

Here’s a pair of the wharfedales for only 1000 bucks/pair. Philly garage guy’s charging 2000/pair??? Not worth it...save a 1000 bucks, donate to the needy

I heard a pair of their BMR Towers, and thought they were pretty killer.

Imaging and soundstage was extremely good. And detail and attack/delay were also exceptional.

I can make a pretty good assumption that the Monitors are similar in qualities.

Stereophile gives them a terrific review in this months issue. One of my friends has a larger pair of Philharmonics and they are amazing, Dennis has been designing crossovers and speakers for years ignore the garage guy comments obviously doesn’t know what he’s talking about.

Ignore the negative comments about Philharmonic, they excellent speakers for not much money. Dennis Murphy has been designing speakers and crossovers for over 20 years, consulting and for Salk Sound and Philharmonic.
