Geoffkait - Classic! Thx 4 the chuckle.
Cars. What does the typical audiophile drive?
Just curious. People have asked about watches,
cigars, beer, and even ones income here.
1: What do you drive (daily & weekends)?
2: What might you be driving in the future?
3: What would you drive if $$$ was no object (pick 2 ;-)?
My answers to the above:
1: Toyota truck.
2: Newer Toyota truck.
3: Lamborghini Murcielago & McLaren F1.

Update - 12 years ago I responded to this thread that I was rocking a BMW 540 wagon and thinking of checking out the soon to be released Cayenne. Well, the Cayenne was too boat-like for me. I did the crisis thing with a 911 for a couple of short-lived years. Had to have a Subaru Forester to do winter duty along with this. More recently, I wanted to go for the Porsche Macan but alas it was not released in time for lease renewal. Current ride is BMW X1 35i M Sport. Very happy with this as the drive reminds me of the E30 that got me hooked on the BMW marque in the first place. |
OK, I still have my hot-rodded 2006 Mustang GT convertible (Whipple Supercharger et al), but as I get older I needed something besides a truck so I sold my old truck and bought a Mercedes e350 convertible. Yeah, it's a middle aged woman's car, I know. But man, it's really nice, and drives really well. I hate getting older. |
My daily driver, driven winter and summer in Maine. 170,000 miles now. I haven't really given much thought to a replacement. Maybe an Audi A3. As to the ideal- honestly, I'd love to get my hands on a low-mileage replacement 968. |
Updating garage. Current cars are Porsche Cayenne Turbo (for regular commute from UK to Austria), Porsche 996(fun daily driver, cheap and no worries parking in the city), Abarth 695 tributo Ferrari (wife's shopping trolley) and Maybach Zeppelin (ultimate luxury transport). Seems to cover the bases pretty well. I used to have a small collection of exotic cars but no longer. All my current cars earn their keep in regular use. |
2013 BMW 328i convertible(3.0L 6-cyclinder inline) and 2013 Audi A4 Quattro 2.0L turbo (daily & weekend). Really solid, nimble and tight rides both! In a few years, I want to get a BMW 335is or Audi S4/S5 or Porsche Boxster S - more fun but stil practical :) While the 328i cont. and Audi A4 are quick, they're not very fast and powerful. A twin-turbo or supercharged 3.0L 6 cyclinder will do the trick. To me, driving is as fun as listening to music - in a different way though. |

I consider my self a classical "Typical Audiophile" Here's some pics of my atypical Ride ... a very boring 89 Berretta ... but it will run 195 MPH on the top end BERRETTA and Berretta in action |
Because folks that are passionate about one pursuit are often passionate about others. At one point, I had a picture of one of my exotic Italian cars posted to my system page and a user here asked my why I was posting a picture of my Corvette. :) I've owned everything from pre-war roadsters to the latest uber cars and have now sold off pretty much everything exotic or collectible. I still love the vintage, the quirky and the raw- before everything got electronic and heavy. I see an analogy to some extent with audio- as the 'technology' has improved, the involvement in the experience has diminished. |
