Stockfisch Records has some great artists and recordings http://www.stockfisch-records.de/sf12_start_e.html |
The Sound Liaison label is one of the best sounding younger labels. Very impressive sound quality, reminds me a bit of reference records in but maybe with an even better sense of placement. Highly recommended. http://www.soundliaison.com/ |
Some great suggestions, but one or two I would add. Firstly, on the grounds of the music itself, the German label, Stockfisch. Great recording technique, but great artists, Sara K, David Munyon, amongst them. The Sara K recording "Waterfall", is one of my all time favourites for the recording quality and the music. The next suggestion is Proprius, I don't So many labels have great recordings, but of noodling Jazz combos, etc. What you might classify as Elevator Music, sorry Naim, I mean you. |
@tgyeti Ref: Al Stewart, Year of the Cat - Rino I thought you may be interested in the following Al Stewart LP's All recorded from original RCA and Janus master tapes by Joe Reagoso and pressed at RTI http://www.fridaymusic.com/al-stewart-zero-she-flies-amp-orange http://www.fridaymusic.com/al-stewart-year-of-the-cat-amp-modern-times-cd http://www.fridaymusic.com/al-stewart-year-of-the-cat-lp http://www.fridaymusic.com/al-stewart-past-present-and-future http://www.fridaymusic.com/al-stewart-time-passages-180-gram-audiophile-vinyllimited-anniversary-edi... You may find that The original Janus Lable , Japan/OBI pressings to be of high quality. I don't have any, so I have no evaluation of there sound, but If interested, you would probably be able to find some info on the net. I was looking at Discogs, and found that there are a hundred different versions of Year of the Cat https://www.discogs.com/Al-Stewart-Year-Of-The-Cat/master/90235 Also there is a Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs pressing of Year of the Cat (out of print) Al Stewart - Year Of The Cat (LP, Album, RE, RM) Label:Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab Cat#: MFSL 1-009 |

Reference Recordings in my opinion are some of the finest. I have extensive experience with Telarc, Mapleshade, Sheffield Labs, Chesky, DMP, Audioquest XRCD, etc. Mapleshade is sort of an organic type of sound. Chesky Ultimate Test and Demonstration CD is a great tool to evaluate your system and develop good listening skills. Telarc, DMP, Reference Recordings are all incredible! If a particular recording is available in XRCD or XRCD II sometimes it is a huge step forward, sometimes not. For example, Dire Straits Brothers in Arms is WAY better on XRCD II while Eagles Hell Freezes Over is only slightly better and maybe not worth the $40 on XRCD II version. (just to be forthcoming I am a dealer for Chesky and Reference Recordings) |
ECM recordings are always of the highest quality (http://www.ecmrecords.com/Startseite/startseite.php). Naim also has its own label with very good recording quality (http://www.naimlabel.com/) |
