Any thoughts on Salamander Synergy cabinets?

Hi:
I need an audio cabinet and and am thinking of Salamander Synergy 323 which suits my size and other requirements perfectly.  I plan to use Townshend platforms  on the Salamander shelves for each component that goes inside or on top of the cabinet.  I'd appreciate any thoughts or experiences you might have had with Salamander or specifically on the combination of Townshend platforms used in/on Salamander cabinets.  I am committed to Townshend as I find their approach to component and speaker isolation first class.

Thanks for any thoughts.  Any ideas about alternatives would also be helpful.

If the size fits I think they are fine.  Keep the back open. I have had both a one unit upright rack and a three unit lower rack for in front of a TV. (Salamander).

I think a nicer rack is Timbernation.  This guy is a gem and will build any size and any wood combination.  Cost is a bit more but a much more lifetime rack.  Take a look at his site and call him and tell him exactly what you want.

Thank you that's good to know.  I will browse there.  This may be the way to go.

Thanks

I agree. Chris at Timbernation is great to deal with and for the same money or a little more you will get beautiful solid hardwoods. He will make it to your specs and give you a price upfront.

@agriculturist , Salamander design cabinets are OK for commercial cabinets and will work fine with everything but turntables. If the size and style suite you great. The only way you will do substantially better is to have custom cabinets made which is very expensive. Turntables will require much better isolation than a Townsend platform can provide. Think MinusK. Speakers should never be placed on isolation platforms of any type. Solid speaker stands are fine for smaller loudspeakers.

"Speakers should never be placed on isolation platforms of any type."

That's a strange comment mijostyn. They've been proven to be effective by many users including myself.

audiotroy,

Were you driving when you posted your answer? It looks that way.

If correct around $3K is a lot to pay for any type of cabinet from Salamander. The top glass(?) shelf supports 150lbs?  What is the weight capacity of the inside shelves? What about air flow for your amp? IMO for $3k you can do better with much less assembly. There are numerous options new or used that have better quality and fit and finish.

Thanks for all the input!

I’m not planning to use it for a turntable. Just for power conditioners, DAC and computer audio components.

And the Townshend platforms would sit on the shelves, with the components on top of the Townshends. I have had good first-hand experience with Townshends for my amps and speakers actually.

So what I am really looking for is a solidly built and decent looking cabinet that will be good for isolation and provide a solid base for the Townshends. The Townshends will do the bulk of the isolation I believe. But I expect the cabinet also needs to be good at absorbing or moving down and out any residual energy.

@dayglow, what are the other options did you mean?

@Audiotroy, do the Synergy 323s only come with aluminum posts or can they be had with steel posts?

Thanks!
