Vinyl pops and clicks: Can they be eliminated??
Well, you can disown the bristling tone of your posts in this thread if you wish but the poster felt unnecessarily chastised and at least two readers thought it was out of line. You're a knowledgeable guy and contribute a lot to this forum. Thank ...
Vinyl pops and clicks: Can they be eliminated??
Come on, Dougdeacon, the guy asks for advice and you dig up a a two year old post, throw it in his face, and slap his hand with a ruler for imagined impoliteness and inadequate record care. Is that really helping anyone?
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
Hi Downunder,Actually, it looks like the M20FL Super is back at Thakker:http://www.williamthakker.eu/Ortofon-M-20-FL-Super-M20FL-Super-Tonabnehmer_p6092_x2.htm
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
Travbrow's posted specs are correct according to the manual that comes with the 4000DIII/Gold.I also bought two of of these cartridges, and picked up two of those replacement styli from turntableneedles.com. One peculiarity is that each of these s...

Raul: Excellent! Many thanks!Best,Bill
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
Raul, thank you very much. What brand of capacitors would you recommend to provide capacitive loads? Kevin will install my choice. Thanks again.Bill
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
Raul et al, what are the most useful capacitance values for a MM phono stage? Kevin at K&K has agreed to install a capacitance selector switch on my Maxxed Out. I can have up to 5 different values. What do you folks think they should be? Figur...
Excellent MM phono stage w/ capacitance loading?
I talked to Kevin and he's going to add a MM capacitance dial and some MM loading options to my Maxxed Out, along with some other upgrades. Thanks again for the suggestion.

I agree. I've worked out the bias pretty well for it on my Phantom (took the A/S weight off altogether) and the 4000D/III sounds astoundingly good with around 15 hours on it. Very live, detailed, and extended at both ends with a an organic, emotio...
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
I think you might be right. The eBay seller of the TRX-2 posted a pic that showed a single owner's manual for both cartridges.
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
Hi Siniy123,Do you know whether the replacement stylus for the TRX-1 (part no. RTRX-1) will work in the TXR-2? Thakker has them NOS. The stylus for the TXR-2 (part no. RTRX-2) seems hard to source. Thanks,Bill
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
Raul,Thanks for the comments. I already tried recalibrating the digital scale and setting VTF at 1.25. Needle looks intact under the digital microscope. Oddly, though, it's brown-gold in color like the cantilever. This is the "gold" version and it...
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
Hi Ddriveman, thanks for the suggestions. Level seems good. Platter is level; the Graham has a tiny built-in bubble-level to check VTA, and that direction is level; azimuth is perpendicular when viewed against a line parallel to the record surface...
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
I'm definitely not using a blank band to set anti-skate, or even to check it. I mention it only to illustrate the odd outward movement of the cartridge with no anti-skate set (beyond the .5g that occurs in a Graham when set to zero). If I set the ...
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
I recently picked up a NOS Empire 4000DIII "Gold" from an eBay seller (thanks to Acman3!). It arrived today; I mounted it in my Phantom II, aligned using a Wallytractor, removed the stylus guard (and busted it!), set VTF to 1 gr. per instructions,...
