Silver Breeze or Furutech AG-12
I have them both, RCA-to-RCA, used on an SME-M2-12R with an SPU Royal GM II cartridge. Both are excellent. The AG-12 is a little fuller and richer in presentation, more dimensional; the Silver Breeze is more open, more extended at both ends, maybe...
How awesome is the McIntosh MC501?
With the right speakers, MC501s make very satisfying music. I bought Sacman's last summer, mated them with Montana EPS2 speakers and a C2300 preamp, and the combination had good synergy. The EPS2 are forward in the mids with some brightness in the...
Power requirement for ADS L-1290?
Don't know the amp offhand but from your description it should be fine. I also ran a pair of ADS L-880 with a 45-watt NAD receiver for a few years in the '80s and they sounded very good, especially in the bass.
PMC EB1i v. Thiel CS3.7 v. Pioneer S1-EX v. ???
The striking visual effect of the flat bass driver is certainly more to the liking of my wife. And the bass it produces through the ATL really fills my room, which isn't easily done; it's quick and tuneful and digs down. I've come to really like t...
PMC EB1i v. Thiel CS3.7 v. Pioneer S1-EX v. ???
I've been able to keep the IB2i at home for another week and I'm starting to think this is the speaker for me. I'm just amazed at its honesty, composure, and dynamic ease and high and low volumes. Nothing hidden, nothing exaggerated, and absolutel...
Acoustic Zen Crescendo
Ncable: Now that you've had them for a few more days, what are your impressions? Any changes with break-in? You're one of the few users with a high-watt SS amp. How do the speakers like all that power? Do you hear any hardness in the mids at high ...
PMC EB1i v. Thiel CS3.7 v. Pioneer S1-EX v. ???
I've heard another person (an owner) that about the EB1i bass, too, in his modest-sized room.
PMC EB1i v. Thiel CS3.7 v. Pioneer S1-EX v. ???
I haven't auditioned the EB1i yet. I might next week, but I might just pass it up. The IB2i midrange driver is what I'd want in the PMC brand, I can tell that already.
PMC EB1i v. Thiel CS3.7 v. Pioneer S1-EX v. ???
I auditioned the IB2i in my system for several days last week. Very impressive speakers, especially the midrange, which is perhaps the best I've heard. The mid driver's combination of clarity and warmth without coloration is truly excellent, and t...
Best tube mono blocks under $15,000?
Hi Efner,That could well be. I tried them with the C2300, too, but that wasn't a good match, nor was the Shrimp with the MC501. Synergy is all. For example, I just got done auditioning a pair of PMC IB2i speakers with the Mac amps and preamp, and ...
Best tube mono blocks under $15,000?
I auditioned the Manley Snappers with Jumbo Shrimp preamp in my system driving Montana EPS2 speakers. Although I have a few amps, my primaries in this system are MC501 and C2300. Listening mostly to vinyl through a very fine analog front end, I an...
Acoustic Zen Crescendo
Victor: When you say the Crescendos have a laid-back sound, does that imply any want of high-frequency detail, air, or sparkle? When I owned Vandy 3A Sigs, as much as I liked them in many ways, I thought their laid-back character came with a sligh...
Power requirement for ADS L-1290?
Nice speaker! With mine I've used 1) a 25 watt HK430 receiver; 2) a 100 watt Outlaw RR2150 receiver; and 3) a 100 watt pure class A, high current boutique amp. They sounded 1) ok; 2) really good; 3)damned near great, respectively. Bottom line: the...
Acoustic Zen Crescendo
James_Edward and Rhljazz: Thanks a lot for the info. These speakers seem to offer a lot. I'm going to have to find a way to hear them!Bill
Acoustic Zen Crescendo
Rhljazz: Thanks a lot for the notes. From what I've read, Mr. Lee worked pretty hard to improve their original efficiency. What was your impression of the midrange drivers? Do you recall whether they seemed seamlessly coherent with the lows and hi...
