Low volume listening dynamics
A speaker with sizzling treble and bloated bass at "normal" listening levels will likely sound better at very low levels, so get some of those...just don't turn them up.
Suggestions on Integrated Amp./Seperates to Run my Klipschorns
Dennis Had's most recent power amps come with a level control, although you likely can order one without it. Single ended pentode (or triode) all day, and a bargain...mine drives a pair of Heresy IIIs with plenty of headroom,. and these amps (when...
Why are audiophiles perceived as being wackos?
The Covid-19 virus doesn't care about your politics or paranoia one iota...you have a clear choice to either do what you can to avoid it (luckily we know how to do that), or get out there in a crowd and possibly suffer with a deadly disease, sprea...
Considering getting a CD player (again). Used? New? Criteria?
I use an old but overbuilt Marantz player's digital out to a Cambridge DAC with a regulated Pangea (no longer available, but a Peter Madnick design) power supply, and will be bummed when any of these things fail as they sound amazingly good
Fletcher-Munson - Random Variables and You
Listening to any group playing acoustic instruments, or even a band with electric instruments that are not "sound reinforced" by a PA system, provides you with delays (in an orchestra there's nearly a city block between furthest left and right), p...
REL R328 & R305 -- are these two REL subwoofers close enough as a match?
If you're using them as a stereo pair they likely should be matched, but I send the same signal to both of mine as basically a mono signal to help tame standing waves and take advantage of "multiple" sub advantages...works amazingly well at the 58...
REL R328 & R305 -- are these two REL subwoofers close enough as a match?
I've been enjoying 2 dissimilar REL subs from the "Q" era (at least 10 years ago), a Q108 MKII and a Q150e and they're great together...there's absolutely NO reason not to "mix" well designed subs, and these, bought used a while back, cost about 2...
Shall I move away from Devialet ??? where to go?
The carbon fibre cabinet is dead...sad....otherwise, once the Devialet (do you pronounce the "t?" I always wonder about that...and I do mean "always"...it's a nightmare) has lost its luster you have to start from the beginning with an all tube sys...
Loudness - Why has the industry stopped producing amplifiers with this feature any longer?
Although I eschew "loudness controls" as well as mostly eschewing the word "eschew" (except for this), I don't understand why "measurement" is needed when you can simply LISTEN to the results of applying a control. I have a Loki EQ that's almost a...
Wharfedale Elysian 4 Incredible build quality and sound, but made in China.
Entirely due to nothing intentional, and nothing against Chinese manufacturing particularly (all my clothes, phones, computers...you get it), my Klipsch Heresy speakers, Schiit items including my preamp, and Dennis Had hand made power amp...all US...
Best improvement for the buck
Ear cleaning.
Low volume listening dynamics
Please explain ISO 226 and I promise I'll try to understand...regarding my seeming "good fortune," are you referring to my ceiling or my furnishings? I do own an oil painting of some gigantic fruit in a road...
How Do You Live The Audiophile Life
I guess you missed the show I mixed for Jim Campilongo a while back. He uses a Princeton Reverb turned all the way up, and had he been unamplified...well...perhaps somewhat harder to enjoy...
Switched From Tubes To SS???Glad You Did???
I do have issues with my tube smartphone...it seems to be burning a hole in my pants, and waiting 40 seconds to answer a call while the tubes warm up seems to result in a lot of missed calls...it does sound better though.
Low volume listening dynamics
Did I get an update in 2001? Was it from Fletcher or Munson? And I have a great sounding room likely due to a  high sloping ceiling and my impeccable taste in furnishings.
