Looking for new to me Jazz music
Mahgister...the recent trios from Julian Lage are astonishing (I mixed a show of his a few years ago...man...) Vijay Iyer’s "Break Stuff," Taborn’s "Chants," Mehldau’s trios are great...get ’em, get ’em all! Bill Charlap’s trios are also cool and ...
wide baffles and baffle step
Devore 0/93s sound pretty damn good to me.
Is Wife Acceptance Factor (WAF) sexist?
WAF isn't sexist al long as the "W" isn't gender specific. If a partner doesn't like the look of a pair of speakers your hobby required to the degree that they gripe about 'em, it's utterly personal how you deal with that. Be kind or move out.
Looking for new to me Jazz music
Brad Mehldau's trios, Julian Lage, Vijay Iyer, Craig Taborn, any Monk, Joe Pass, Bill Evans, Bill Charlap, Anat Cohen, John Scofield, Bill Stewart, ...and more, much more.
Tone controls? Sorry about the heresy.
The Schiit Loki EQ didn't exist 11 years ago when this thread was started, but it does now and it's an amazing little thing...I use mine sparingly but when needed it does the job perfectly. A no noise little gem, and at a silly price.
Local dealer cuts store in half says audio is dead
This comment applies to the pre and post pandemic world. My beef with audio dealers regards their lack of musical promotion of any kind. Too hard to organize a showroom concert or that rare demo? There are a couple of relatively well known audio "...
Expanding questions about tubes in a preamp
If you’re selling tubes you have a commercial stake in this nonsense so it’s no wonder you’re a bit testy (accidental pun) as helping people be worried about non-issues is clearly part of your business model...ethics be damned! If I don’t hear som...
Expanding questions about tubes in a preamp
I'm absolutely right, but I do get that the insecure among us do get testy when somebody pokes holes in their silly paranoia driven tweaks...don't be sad "auddie"...again, dump audibly microphonic tubes...you won't regret it.
Goldmund, not much inside, but ultra expensive.
BMW 335i turbos DO NOT blow frequently...my local (independent) BMW mechanic has one.
Who, do you think, designs the best looking tube-based devices?
Dennis Had...I had to say it...heh heh. But for me it's true, and I do care about sound as the design of anything that doesn't work (except maybe Frank Loyd Wright's leaky roofs) often kills the vibe and with it the esthetic.
“TAD” Tubes
These guys have been advertising in guitar magazines seemingly forever.
Klipsch Heresy iv...Your experience.
I also was surprised when I first heard the IIIs...the detractors were all wrong as they're a very coherent and classy speaker. Nothing like 'em...small, tilted back, unobtrusive, and can light up my room driven only by 12wpc.
Cat-proofing your speakers...
I had cats for years and at one point they fell in love with my Vandersteens which had to be sent back for re-covering...I realized later that cats (mine always were allowed outside) destroy the small animal ecosystem wherever they are, and for me...
Klipsch Heresy iv...Your experience.
The Heresy IIIs also have titanium tweeters (and mid horns) and I’ve never thought they were overly bright....simply revealing, and possibly not transistor amp friendly if that amp (or anything else in the rig) has harsh treble. I too am intereste...
Schiit Freya Plus tubes and tube rolling
I tried the JJs in my "original version" Freya and was not impressed (maybe I should have let 'em "burn in" more)...I also own the new Tung Sols and they are also sort of boring...I have piles of 6SN7GTBs and have settled on NOS GEs as a reliable ...
