Coaxial Vs Optical for 2 Channel Listening
Optical interfaces are not always reliable at sample rates above 96 kHz so for me coax is the clear choice.
Krell KAS amplifier hum
This means @jea48 is correct - you have a ground loop hum. I still had my hum with only speakers plugged into amp and no other components connected. You need to go through through a process of elimination adding one component at a time to see whic...
Krell KAS amplifier hum
@jg2077   This Emotiva CMX-2 at just $129 is a good starting point to see if DC offset can be removed.  It comes with a 30-day return so not much risk.  You will know right away.  It my case it removed about 50% of the transformer hum.  https://em...
Krell KAS amplifier hum
And a DC offset eliminator may not completely remove the mechanical hum from transformers. This has been my experience with one particular amp, and after trying everything possible the only culprit remaining was delamination "rattle" from loose wi...
Benchmark DAC3 or Bryston BDA2 or 3
Nope, I was wrong - sorta.  The BDA2 and 3 both measure very well as does the Benchmark.  Price is the most significant difference I see and how it sounds in your system.
Benchmark DAC3 or Bryston BDA2 or 3
@mahler123  I last listened to a Benchmark DAC about 3 years ago, at an audio show, and never heard one in my system.  To me it sounded a bit hard compared to the Bryston. Was it the DAC1 you listened to 3 years ago?  I recently picked up a DAC3 f...
Where's the @#$%^ is the 'New Today' hyperlink on the home page?!?
It doesn't always show.  So you can always go to the "Explore" drop-down tab and select "New Today" under the At A Glance choices.
Banana Plugs too narrow
Out of curiosity, what speaker cable are you using?  If I were truly smitten with the cable I'd inquire into sending them back to the manufacturer and have them replace the bananas with spade connectors.  A few years ago I did this with a pair of ...
Why no “Break in” period?
Audioquest believes there is a break-in period that applies to the AQ Niagara 1200.  From their owner's manual:Though every attempt has been made to reduce the necessity of so-called “break-in,” “burn-in,” or “run-in” time—including high-power run...
Streaming Audio Cuts Out Frequently
When I first started streaming hi-res on Tidal a few years ago I had intermittent cutouts, especial on the 24/192 tracks.  I replaced my cheap Xfinity-provided cable modem/router with a Netgear Nighthawk 7000 router (and separate but inexpensive N...
Upgrading my blusound streamer
Judging by the equip listing above Pres is using the Node2 as streamer and DAC.  Assuming this to be the case then the DAC is clearly the weak link more so than the streamer.  Lots of good DAC options out there from $1.5K - $6K.
Power Amp To Go With Cary SLP98P Preamp
So I've owned a Cary SLP98P with a CAD 120S MKii.  I actually liked the SLP98P better than the 120S MKii.  I found the amp to be noisy (hum issues) and sonically it didn't dig very deep and I found the bass to be flabby and lack authority.  All ne...
Unsolvable Woofer Pumping (Phono only)
It’s sounding like this is probably "normal" performance for this table. With an entry-level table that only weighs 12 lbs, you’re not going to get the performance of a topology that costs more and is focused on design elements such as: high mass ...
Unsolvable Woofer Pumping (Phono only)
Record warp was my first reaction as well.  Is the woofer pumping worst when the tone arm is near the outer edge of the record and best as it moves close to the dead wax?
Qobuz Special Offer
I really enjoy Qobuz but I really wish they'd offer a family plan like Tidal does.  Seems like low-hanging fruit they're missing out on.
