How do you avoid buying new LPs that sound just like CDs?
If you're into 50s/60s/70s jazz you won't go wrong buying Japanese pressings from the 70s.  It's pretty easy to stay below $30 as well and I've never had a disappointing pressing.

I find Discogs to be a good resource to compare the quality of pressings and to help determine whether analog tapes were used, who did the mastering, pressing etc...Lots of good owner feedback on various pressings.
Has "politically correct" killed the used audio market?
@glupson I'm the poster who mentioned elected officials (which would include PM Stefan Lofven).  I didn't reference the King...that was someone else.  I thought you were attacking me for suggesting elected officials have admitted failed policy wh...
Has "politically correct" killed the used audio market?
@glupson   Is Sweden's king an elected official? Sweden has elections too.  In fact they have something like 8 different parties routinely on their ballot and it takes them months to sort out their results. They have a Parliament along with a Ki...
Luxman E-250 or Sutherland 20/20, or something else?
Using a tubed linestage isn’t a sonic substitute for using a phono preamp with tubed gain stages. I think Upscale Audio offers 60-day returns.
Tuning my system towards a darker tone
@erik_squires  I'd say your tuning is going to be simple: Turn the speakers so the tweets are not on-axis of your head. Are you saying that the tweeters should be pointed to cross in front or behind the listener's head?
Experience using a subwoofer with Tekton speakers?
@tvad   I think we're saying the same thing?

Your 98dB, 4-foot tall, 85 lb speakers with dual 8-inch and dual 5-inch drivers don’t produce enough bass? It might be because you’re pairing a 7W SET amp with a 4 ohm speaker. I’m not knocking the speakers - I just think the pairing is less than ...
Has "politically correct" killed the used audio market?
Sweden is a train wreck right now with 165 COVID deaths per day projected by Jan 1 as they have the steepest upward curve of anywhere on the globe right now. That’s in an entire country of only 10 million people. They have zero ICU capacity today....

Unless you’re looking at LOMC carts with output below 0.3mV, I’d be leaning towards the tubed phono pre’s in that price range but that’s simply the sound I prefer. In this range I’d be looking at Modwright, Allnic, EAR, Manley, and Herron (althoug...

The point about malaria is, it has been a world wide issue for MANY years. It is somewhat controlled. Yet every year thousands upon thousand are affected. It is an ongoing pandemic... Malaria is the perfect example of an endemic, NOT a pandemic...
How old are you?
I frequent this board this board to help myself feel young!
Message from the Past: We were never against tone controls
@erik_squires Ok, while I totally agree with your premise that it's fine to incorporate tone controls into audiophile listening, I have to categorically disagree with this statement of yours.  Seriously??? If you don't have tone controls, how can...
Pioneers in the history of higher end/accurate sounding components....and you..
Let me get this straight....only insecure people roll their eyes at name-droppers? You will never find one psychologist who will agree with that premise because it's backwards.  Name-dropping is a sign of insecurity...a need to garner more credibi...
Tuning my system towards a darker tone
The darkest power cable I ever tried was a Pangea from Audio Advisor; to the point I had to remove it from my system. Perhaps it would provide the sonics you’re seeking. I too have a lot of glass in my main listening room - an entire 9.5 ft wall f...
