Has anyone else noticed this about Mozart ....
Bomarc ... yes it is entirely about my taste in music, but I don't think that's my point. My point is that Mozart, unlike other composers with who I am familiar, seems to me to have two very contrasting styles of music. All composers produce a spe...
Noisy pot?
Good result ... no money spent ! :-)
REL and VA Bach's
I have spica angelus (no idea on the specs) large floorstanders with a recessed bass that goes very deep but not so loud. My REL strata is set to 27Hz and about 2pm on the volume. Room is about 9ft by 10ft.
Noisy pot?
Sometimes a noisy pot can be cured just by rotating it back and forth quickly ten times or so. Often the pots that become noisy do so because they are the least used ... I suspect that's your problem. Every week or so on my preamp I turn the selec...
REL Quake/MJ acoustics pro 50 sub
at that MSRP I'd be tempted to get a used Strata 3. Better sub and better resale (if and when you upgrade).
Has anyone else noticed this about Mozart ....
Thanks for the responses, which are very interesting. I'm the first to proclaim my relative lack of knowledge. At first I was sure that I would find that the pieces I don't like (Clarinet concerto, horn concerto) would have been written earlier in...
REL Quake/MJ acoustics pro 50 sub
Are you sure the REL quake is available in the US? Last time I checked the entry sub in the US was the strata.
PS Audio vs Bel Canto vs Musical Fidelity shootout
If you want a lot of amp for little money, with fantastic build quality check out Densen ... www.densen.dk. I've had a b-100 for about 5 years and it's just a perfect little amp, if a little underpowered for your application.
MicroMega Transport Help
I have a mission CD player (15 yrs old) which was skipping and making a whining noise during playing. I opened the lid, cleaned the lens, and lubricated everywhere I could think of with PTFE based grease and 18 months later its still working perfe...
Harbeth 40 speakers
Harbeth are a relatively small manufacturer, even in my home country of the UK, with relatively few dealers. I wouldn't read too much into the number of dealers carrying a particular company: Bose has loads of dealers, as do JVC, Pioneer etc etc.I...
adding DIP to mega changer, any difference?
Well, my two digital cables cost a combined $50 because they're home made. I used RG217 mil spec low loss coax, and I have put a ferrite clamp on the cable from the transport to the DIP to try to reduce noise from the transport from interfering wi...
why go against REL setup recommendation?
My experience was that the sub sounded terrible in the corner, no matter how it was adjusted. Since I have a 8x10 listening room (spare bedroom) I really would have liked it to be in the corner, but now I choose to step around it ... it's really i...
adding DIP to mega changer, any difference?
Sean's correct. The DIP made more improvement in my setup than the external DAC !! This suggests the weakest link of cheap transports is signal jitter rather than DACs or analogue outputs. My setup:Mission PCM 7000->DIP->Monarchy 22A. This s...
why go against REL setup recommendation?
I own a REL strata3, and corner placement resulted in boomy bloated bass, and lots of it. Mine actually sounds best placed between the main speakers, nearer the right channel. That's not to say that corner placement cannot work, but in my case it ...
Creative and cheap DIY turntable/tonearm tweaks
Jyprez ... you're right ... if it only EVER moved horizontally there would be no problem. But that is never the case, even if the record is not warped. There may not be large vertical deflections, but there are small deflections on all records (at...
