GMA Europa discontinued?
Sonance, I'm currently getting a pair. Did you try to contact JM sound in the classifieds ? Joe's a good guy from who I have bought gear in the past. www.jmsound.com.Joe had one pair left as of Monday.http://cls.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?ddspkrm...
strange rel subwoofer cable phenomenon
I have found that interconnects usually make most difference at higher frequencies, as one would expect since it is the capacitance that is the key design parameter for interconnects, and the effects of capacitance are proportional to the frequenc...
To buy or not to buy Audiolab 8000C
I think it was about 400 british pounds when I was living in the UK, around 1995.

Good buy. Even if it doesn't work out I'm sure you can sell it for what it cost you, as Audiolab is a well respected (though sadly deceased) brand.
GMA Europas v. Spendor S3/5 v. Spendor S6
If you're interested in imaging and the speakers' ability to make it sound like the musicians are in your room then I'd say throw out the spendors. The S3/5 have an inoffensive sound, but my ancient Spica Angelus made the s3/5 sound distinctly lo-...
Suspension vs. non-suspension turntables???
The concrete floor suggests to me that a floor standing rack would work well. My guess is that the drywall is picking up the bass and feeding it into the wall rack.A very cheap setup for isolating my rega is a sheet of soft polyurethane foam, abou...

Gogamecocks ... the audiolabs are simple elegant designs using off-the-shelf parts. I see no reason that one of their amplifiers can't be kept functioning almost indefinitely. However, in the case of the poster I think a passive pre would be bette...
Suspension vs. non-suspension turntables???
Hmmm. Just because something's old doesn't mean it's time to change it. In fact you might find out it's shockingly expensive to change. My rega planar 3 cost me $300 many years ago when I lived not far from Southend in the UK. I think I'd be spend...
Nightmare
I don't know about MLs working, but if you put enough clutter on the side walls (bookshelfs, or better yet studio style absorption pads, or heavy drapes) and if you get monitors and setup for nearfield type listening then I think 8 feet could work...
best / worst album cover
I like "News of the World" by Queen. I have no idea how it relates to the album, though.Sadly with the coming of CDs album cover art died a quick death.

If your CD player was happy driving the power amp directly then a passive preamp could work very well for you. There are various passive preamp kits available, or you could buy one from Creek.
Woofer dust cap repair advice, HELP
Duct tape .. that's what you need. Preferably an old roll that's sat in the garage for a few long hot summers and is starting to ooze its glue and has dust stuck to the edges. If it's stuck to the self or drawer you find it in so much the better :-)
Chinese CD players vs. Arcam
Lant .. thanks. Sorry to hear Arcam has sold out. One of the last hold-outs of UK hifi manufacturing. Naim and Cyrus still manufacture electronics in the UK.
To buy or not to buy Audiolab 8000C
I'd hold out for $180 and if he sells it great, if not then it's no loss. Loose RCAs are often very simple to fix, even if you have to put in new panel-mount RCAs and wire them to the PCB. Even better, if you know the distance to the source (CD pl...
Chinese CD players vs. Arcam
Lant5 - do you have proof of this? Last time I looked the 73t was made in the UK in Arcam's dedicated factory. Not confusing Arcam with Cambridge Audio ?
