Harbeth Compact 7's
A Harbeth dealer in the UK used to recommend Densen B-100. 60wpc into 8Ohms, 120wpc into 4Ohms.I've never heard the compact 7s but I own the B-100 and it's a wonderful little amp ... Naim Nait like drive but with better transparency and sweeter tr...
Speaker Bass Reduction
Surely bunging the ports with something solid is going to turn a ported design into a sealed (infinite baffle) design, which could mess up the crossover design and throw off the whole frequency response.I'm with stehno .. distance from rear walls ...
CD Players Getting Better?
If you spend $1500 on a 5+ yr old player first make sure the manufacturer is still in business and then check with them to make sure the laser/transport can still be repaired. If both answers are yes then I'd go with the older player. Power supply ...
Speakers "To close to the side walls
Perhaps, but by toeing in the speakers (so they point more directly at the listener) and by placing a diffusing pad on the side wall where the primary reflection would occur you can help reduce the effects of the side walls.Toeing in will increase...
Review: Shure M97xE Cartridge
Thanks for the great review. As a budget concious planar 3 owner it's looking more and more like a Denon dl160 is in my future.
Why do only US makers focus on time coherency?
Bombaywalla ... I heard the DM603s and the imaging was far below that of the Spicas, though they had much better dynamics. When I heard reviewers say that ls3/5s image well I wonder if the same reviewers ever heard tc-50s or angelus, because the l...
Why do only US makers focus on time coherency?
It is my (admittedly very limited) understanding that electrostatics are coherent. I remember hearing some large Martin Logans at a dealer in the UK and being impressed that the soundstage was incredibly wide. However the imaging was very diffuse ...
Why do only US makers focus on time coherency?
Can someone give me an example of a speaker that images as well as or better than the spicas that is not coherent (spica's aren't coherent, but do a reasonable approximation).Perhaps I'm completely wrong for associating imaging with phase and time...
Why do only US makers focus on time coherency?
Why do some companies discount it? My guess is because time and phase correctness and first order crossovers place constraints on the drivers (must operate in much larger ranges) and this can lead to reducing the power handling and dynamics of the...
Why do only US makers focus on time coherency?
Hammy .. Pace Rhythm And Timing. It's about whether a stereo makes you want to tap your foot or go to sleep.
Why do only US makers focus on time coherency?
That's a very good question. The british speakers seem to be more interested in smooth frequency response, than time and phase. To date I haven't heard a british speaker that images particularly well (and don't say ls3/5 because they don't image a...
Best redbook CD playback system for $30k
I think with that amount of money and a desire to buy new you should be asking for dealer recommendations, rather than equipment recommendations. Then let the dealer(s) put together systems that you can demo, preferably in your home.
QUAD or Arcam ?
I think you should demo them, because Quad and Arcam used to differently voiced for different audiences, and this may still be the case. Quad is somewhat more laid back sounding than arcam. Arcam is more upbeat. It's personal taste.I remember demo...
GMA Europa discontinued?
Abruce, I guess I took it in a negative way because it was negative :-)
GMA Europa discontinued?
Nathan, this is your first post in Audiogon, as far as I can tell. Are the rest of your posts going to be sniping, or do you plan to contribute something ?Roy spent 10-15 minutes discussing Europas, music, my amp, my listening room, the height of ...
