B&W PV1 Just like you, I read the review and saw a picture. It looked beautifull, and the review was very positive. It cost 950 pounds, or some 1500 euro's, which should be some 1800-2000 dollars. I can't wait 'till it hit shops here in Holland, I'm defin...
Cheap AV-amp with 5.1 pre-outs Thanx Efritz, but I managed to found a used (and cheap) Yamaha DSP E-800, which satifies my needs (for the time being ofcourse :)).
How much difference between balanced XLR and RCA Most important is the signal fed into any cable, balanced or RCA. Even the 'best' balanced cable can't improve a bad signal. The Meridian is a very nice piece of equipment, so if that sounds better to your ears, forget about the type of connection...
How to add to my 2-chanl int. amp for home theater Ehmmmm Isopod, I might be wrong here, but I thought the 492 doesn't offer Dolby Digital or DTS?
Enjoyment It can lead to more musical satisfaction, especially the first time you slot a new (presumably very expensive) unit in your system. Just a shame that feeling doesn't last very long, you get annoyed with your 'old' equipment, that holds the true ab...
Fidelity "The holy grail of hi-fi is to recreate the recording engineers interpretation of the performance in your living room as acurate as possible."That's a good definition on hi-fi, but not one I care to follow (anymore). I've done some recording in my...
How to add to my 2-chanl int. amp for home theater In addition to Jdcrox: most processors/receivers incorporate some kind testlevel-noise. Hook the gear up, turn the integrated stereo-amp to 12'o-clock, sit in your listening/viewing place, and adjust the noise so all speakers give the same output....
Cyrus amps - what do they sound like? I had a Cyrus 1 (mkII) for a long time, and loved the power that came out that small, shoebox-sized (metal!!) case. It really had the speaker in a firm grip, delivering lots of detail, good soundstaging and firm bass. Eventually I bought new speak...
Special digital cable needed? Thanx Steve, I read it and almost understood it - just let it digest for the night and I will be OK. Just for the record: I can lend a digital cable next week, and plug it in. I keep whatever sounds best......
Special digital cable needed? Thanks for the responses, untill funds allow I just use the old analogue cable. Audioengr, just one question: why a minimum of 1.5 meter? With analogue cable should be as short as possible, and 0.5 meter would be sufficient.
Cheap AV-amp with 5.1 pre-outs Yes, you're right, that is the cheapest solution, but my computer is on the other side of the house, so it would be more convenient to have a 'real' av amp around. Thanx anyway!
Non-audio related question about forum linguo After an extensive search (well, I asked a friend of mine) it seems that w00t is indeed a expression of joy, and is based on a funny sound old computers made when starting up and finding some hardware error. Hmmm.... what's so funny about that? I ...
Non-audio related question about forum linguo Musicslug: the refrain was: "Whoops, there it is,...." etc etc. although I have to admit the pronounciation could have been better.....
Non-audio related question about forum linguo I don't know, but thanx Slappy, now it's in my head to! Damn you! Thankfully I'm at the office, so I've nothing better to do then gnash my teeth and bother my secretary.... wait..... what did she say yesterday about a restraining order? Anyway, I'...
How old is too old ?.... Some Hifi-reviewer (sorry, don't remember his/her name) once wrote: "There is no system that can't be improved by a hefty dose of music". If you're happy with the new sound, but still want to burn some cash, why not buy more music? Lp's, cd's dvd'... |
