New Years Resolutions
First, to Sean and everybody else: happy new year.Second: maybe a dissapointment Sean, but I don't do new years resolutions any more. I just don't stick with them, so it's a waste of time. Besides, any moment is the right moment to better your lif...
Help Need tone ctrl on a reference integrated
Yes, that would probably work, although I think the sound will deteriorate from adding an extra amp. And you'll also have two volume pots in the chain, which won't do any good. If the sound is unbearable without tone control, wouldn't it be better...
Help Need tone ctrl on a reference integrated
Mattcecil, regarding the Musical Fidelity tone control: it's called the X-Tone, as part of their X-series, a serie of equipment built into tube-like, metal casings. It isn't made anymore, but they appear every now and then secondhand. The link to ...
New to tubes
Marco, who said anything about prostitutes? I think my girlfriend wouldn't be to happy.... :)And Musicslug, actually there are only two tubes in the pre, but I still can switch them, so your idea is valid. Although, with two tubes probably the sam...
New to tubes
Ok guys, thanx for your help. There's nothing deeply philosophical about my set-up though. I changed speakers, but they couldn't get along with my ss-amp, so first I bought this huge class A power-amp, using my old integrated as pre. When funds al...
New to tubes
Thanx for the reply. May I bother you with another question, not about tubes this time? My poweramp is a real class A-device, and runs extremely hot. To the best of my knowledge, this should shorten the lifespan of the transistors (Sanken). I have...
New to tubes
Wow Marco, I didn't mean to stress you out: three postings :). Not sure about the KT88's. Could it be EC 88's? Does the type of tube matter for the lifespan? Maybe a tubestester is a good idea, although I might be a little paranoid, since the tube...
Marantz PM 7000 keeps cutting out
It sounds like the protection of the amp is cutting in. That means it feels it has to deliver to much power (shortcut) or it gets to hot. I'm not sure, I seem to remember that the Katan's can be a pretty difficult load, and from my own (although l...
PMC speakers?
Hi Alex, good as the Rotels may be, the Cyrus and/or Moon amps will be better. The PMC, although efficient, fancy amps with muscle, so things like Bryston or other big amps will give a great improvement. I think you will hear a big difference (imp...
Live Hendrix
I'd go for Live at Winterland, although it isn't a recent release. Actually it was my first ever cd, somewhere in the 80's. Hell, I didn't even own a cd-player then! Anyway, last week I played it, and it sounded pretty good, and he was doing a goo...
Double Run spkr cable Single wiring - any good ?
Simonleemd, why not try to biwire your speaker? You have the cable and the speaker to do so, and it won't hurt them. You've only heard bad things about biwiring, but for my set-up, it made a huge difference for the better. Just suck it and see, if...
Oooops Just got caught...
I would tell her I was thinking how much I loved her, and saw her beautifull face in the glowing tubes. Having said that, I would show her the brochure of a new, better (and more expensive) piece of kit, and say 'Imagine how much I would love you ...
There's a sucker born every minute
I'm starting a European 'free-the-cornered-soundwaves' platform righ now. Can someone please give me the adress of the 100% zinc-alloy freedom fighters? I want to import them, that is, if US govenment allows such high-tech to be imported to less d...
Quit vinyl?
Good questions. The seller is on holiday now, so I can't contact him. The speakers are sunk into the baffle, and the crossover is biwirable, where the first set of terminals is driving low and mid, and the second set is driving only the tweeter. S...
Quit vinyl?
I think we're agreeing here. Funny thing is I just got new loudspeakers, who have some snags (a bit brittle with my amp), but are also very revealing, allowing me to hear all kind of detail I've never heard before. And that makes me listen to musi...
