After market Motor + Belt drive for Verdier Anyone using the stock Platine Verdier DC motor should look into replacing the wall-powered supply with a battery. There is at least one retailer in the UK who sells an after-market battery for the PV.I have a Galibier Gavia in my system which use...
Switching preamps in and out Very nice of Kevin to respond so thoroughly. If only all mfrs were as accomodating.....
Harbeth 40.1 vs spendor sp100r2 Chazro, I read the same comment and had the same reaction. But I suppose that's why companies make both tube and solid state amps. Some folks genuinely prefer the sound of ss gear and somehow do not hear what I believe are the obvious strengths of...
Switching preamps in and out Good summary Al. I overlooked your mention of cheater plugs and two-prong power plugs, so you had already covered that aspect. At the risk of beating an already dead horse, I would add that the concerns are probably still more theoretical than rea...
Switching preamps in and out Al, I think we are still not communicating. When the power amp's volume control is reduced to zero, its input connection is shorted to ground. Yes, it's true that the input jack is no longer connected to the preamp's ground once the i/c is disconn...
Switching preamps in and out Wolf's responses are right on the money. Since your amps have volume controls on their inputs, you can turn them down to zero and then safely disconnect and connect i/c cables. This will leave the power amps powered up continuously and avoid stres...
Harbeth 40.1 vs spendor sp100r2 I have an older version of the Spendors---the SP-100---and I have never heard the Harbeth 40.1, so my comments are not exactly what you're seeking. However, I wanted to say that Spendors have a reputation for being more compatible with tube amps t...
shipping boxes for heavy electronics I had a very good experience using the UPS Store. I brought my 86lb Classe CA300 amp in and they double boxed it with lots of foam. It was better than the original box and foam. And the cost was quite reasonable.
Speakers that copied the Wilson Watt Puppy look Rfogel8, Are you sure your friend's H sub used 12" woofers? I built the H using Fried's kit instructions, and it used a single 8" KEF woofer per channel. It was a special version of the KEF B200 which had a nice synergism with the TL cabinet. Deep...
Cables for low power amps and Horns? I recommend the first generation of wire world eclipse speaker cables. I have consistently preferred the sound of my eclipse cables to all others I've tried. This includes Auditorium 23.
New Preamp Suggestion Larry, I will soon find out about the Duelunds. I have a pair of CAST caps that will replace the V-Caps in my version of the Epifania.
x-over resistor replacement query Mills 12 watt wirewound resistors are an inexpensive alternative and are very high quality sonically. In some places, I prefer them to Duelunds in my speaker crossovers. The Mills are also available in a wide range of 1% values.
New Preamp Suggestion An Emotive Audio Epifania with Duelund CAST output capacitor would be really nice.
Speakers that copied the Wilson Watt Puppy look I enjoyed the Bud Fried comments above. I had the original Fried H which had satellites for each channel and a center subwoofer with twin transmission lines. Fried later came out with the M which used the same satellites placed on top of a separat...
Next step suggestions, from Spendor SP100r ? Agree with you on the WW Eclipse 6. I tried the Eclipse 6 and Silver Eclipse 6, and preferred the original Eclipse speaker cable at least in my system. The earlier Wireworld desigs (the original and Series II and III) used a totally different type... |
