Speakers that copied the Wilson Watt Puppy look
Rfogel8, Are you sure your friend's H sub used 12" woofers? I built the H using Fried's kit instructions, and it used a single 8" KEF woofer per channel. It was a special version of the KEF B200 which had a nice synergism with the TL cabinet. Deep...
Cables for low power amps and Horns?
I recommend the first generation of wire world eclipse speaker cables. I have consistently preferred the sound of my eclipse cables to all others I've tried. This includes Auditorium 23.
New Preamp Suggestion
Larry, I will soon find out about the Duelunds. I have a pair of CAST caps that will replace the V-Caps in my version of the Epifania.
x-over resistor replacement query
Mills 12 watt wirewound resistors are an inexpensive alternative and are very high quality sonically. In some places, I prefer them to Duelunds in my speaker crossovers. The Mills are also available in a wide range of 1% values.
New Preamp Suggestion
An Emotive Audio Epifania with Duelund CAST output capacitor would be really nice.

I enjoyed the Bud Fried comments above. I had the original Fried H which had satellites for each channel and a center subwoofer with twin transmission lines. Fried later came out with the M which used the same satellites placed on top of a separat...
Next step suggestions, from Spendor SP100r ?
Agree with you on the WW Eclipse 6. I tried the Eclipse 6 and Silver Eclipse 6, and preferred the original Eclipse speaker cable at least in my system. The earlier Wireworld desigs (the original and Series II and III) used a totally different type...

Maz,There is a European distributor for Skylan stands since they are popular for Harbeth as well as Spendors. Another thing that occurred to me is your choice in speaker cable. The Kimber cables tend to have a deep and nicely controlled bass but c...

Charles1dad, Thanks for the additional comments. I also took a look at your system page and saw your comments there. Very helpful!
Capacitor log Mundorf Silver in Oil
Charles1dad, You said you replaced your speaker caps with CAST. What speaker caps did you replace? Your cost of $850 for the pair of speaker caps suggests that it's a rather small value. Did you replace the full cap or are you using the CAST as a ...
How old is "Too old for" drivers
Really old speakers may be doing just fine after 50, 60 or even 70 years. Those paper cones can last a very long time if not abused. More recent speakers with foam surrounds are another story. They may rot out after only 15 years or so.

I just took a closer look at your system page and noticed the stands you are using for your Spendors. To get deeper and stronger bass, I suggest you try some some Skylan stands. I recently replaced my Sound Anchor stands with Skylans and was rathe...

As someone who has owned SP-100s for the past 11 years, I can sympathize with your situation. During the past few years, I have considered a wide variety of newer speakers as replacements for the Spendors, yet still have the SP-100s. Some that you...
Top resistors
I have tried AMRG carbon films 3 times---as the cathode resistor in my linestage and as dropping resistors in my power amps' bias supply. Each time the ARMG was heavy in the bass and very dark and soft in the highs. In each case, I ended up replac...

Jetrexpro, Were the tantalums the newer type made by Audio Note during the last few years, or were they the older style Shinto tantalums distributed under the AN name? I tried the old AN tants 10 or 12 years ago, and they had a peak in the midtreb...
