Are You Old Enough to Remember Those Jaw-Dropping Manufacturer Demos?
The dealer driving Klipschorns with a Phase Linear would have fit right in at this year’s CAF.  A number of rooms had ridiculous ear-splitting volumes.  Maybe it’s because baby boomers are all going deaf.
Are You Old Enough to Remember Those Jaw-Dropping Manufacturer Demos?
I don’t know if you would call it a gimmick but the best demonstration at a hifi show for me was at a DC show in the spring of 1970.  The good folks at Dynaco were demonstrating the new A25 speakers by hiding them behind a screen that covered the ...

I recall the upside-down turntable demo.  For me it was at a hifi show in Philly during the early 1970s.
Audio Innovations Series 800 SUT - looking for info
I expect the S1000 is wired the same as your S800.  The switch on my S1000 connects a pair of transformer windings either in series or in parallel.  I removed the switch and simplified the wiring for a nice improvement in sound quality.  I later r...

Best container to move prized records between homes? Thanks!
When I moved a year ago, I had to pack my 3000 records so they would survive two moves, first from our old house to a storage warehouse while our new house was being finished, and then 3 months later from the warehouse to the new house 160 mikes a...
What Holiday Gifts did you ask for or Give to Yourself?
My wife gave me a pair of Western Electric capacitors made in 1934.  She’s the best!
Cable elevators
@bdp24  Have you actually tried the Home Depot stand with your cables?
Cable elevators
Each riser I have tried made the bass too lean and some of them introduced a glare in the treble.  The risers I tried were all household objects like wood blocks, cardboard tubes, 3 sticks arranged like a teepee, foam, etc.  Maybe if I had spent $...
Furutech FI-50 NCF (R) vs FI-28 (R) Differences?
@lorde73  i haven’t tried the FI-46.  Most of my connector trials were with Audio Note ISIS mains cable but I also used Ocellia Silver Reference cable.   Just to follow up on my earlier post, I have since then tried using ETI Legato Gold for bo...
The best speaker cables you’ve had
Audio Note SPx has been my favorite for the past 5 years.
Furutech FI-50 NCF (R) vs FI-28 (R) Differences?
I found the FI-28(r) to be too bright and too lean.  The FI-50 NCF is much better balanced tonally and is more detailed to boot.  However, I should add that after using FI-50 NCF connectors on all my cables for several years, I recently replaced t...
All New Treehaus Audiolab Phantom Of Luxury Open-Baffle FIELD COIL Loudspeakers Review
I wanted to like the Treehaus system.  The designer has an interesting take on things audio, both speakers and electronics, and I liked the look of his gear.  Unfortunately, each time I heard the system, at the two CAF shows, I was very disappoint...
The fascination of vintage hi-fi: A Look Back
Nice story @doyle3433.  I have heard an IPC horn setup, also mono, and it sounded great for sure.  I can understand your enthusiasm! Count me among the vintage fans.  My speakers have horns from the late 1940s, drivers from the 50s and 60s, and c...
When someone tells you it's a $40,000 amp, does it sound better?
@ps  I must have watched the Ron Carter special at the same time you did.  An excellent presentation and it filled in some gaps for me.  It also prompted me to pull out a number of my CDs and LPs featuring Ron Carter and enjoy them all over again...
