I've used audio quest and Transparent audio cables with much success with my B&W speakers
In-Depth Explanation of the Audio Term "Synergy"
If you're looking for a long winded answer there may not be one. I think that everyone has their own definition. To me, it means nothing more than when I hear it system it sounds right. Like the components were meant to be together.
Preamp recommendation $300: see desired features
Agreed with Sugarbie. I had a Rotel RC972 a while back. Nice pre amp. Any pre amp, by definition, will have a pre out though. I know the 972 doesn't have defeatable tone controls, as it doesn't have tone controls. I think it does have a tape loop....
Help with speakers for audio refinement complete
I would advise against that. I tried the MMG with the audio refinement. Not nearly enough power. Sounds marginal, when those two separately can sound great.
If yhou were to start a shop which brands.........
Porziob, great response, I agree.

Is the Pass Labs X350.5 and X1 "warm"?
If you are sticking with your B&W 804S speakers, I would not go with Pass labs. Both Classe audio and especially Jeff Rowland would be much more suited to your speakers. One of my friends had a nice Pass Labs B&W setup. While it sounded go...
Suggestions for lower priced pre/amp
You might be hard pressed to find an integrated with two sets of outputs. As far as I know, there are only receivers that offer this. The audio refinement isn't loaded with features but sounds incredible for the price. I've owned one on four diffe...
Suggestions for lower priced pre/amp
Are you looking for a pre amp and a power amp? Or an integrated amplifier? If you are willing to spend 500 on the amp and another 500 on the preamp, Parasound P3 and P23 are the only way to go in my opinion. Look sweet, sound very good with tons o...
Newbie looking for cheap dependable table
I think the Music Hall MMF 5 would be a good place to start. Used you can find them for abou 500. Otherwise, you could step up to the MMF 7 if you wanted to spend a little more money.I started with an MMF 5 and thought it sounded good even with th...
What finish is more attractive: Wood or paint?
Totally opinion driven. Woodworkers like myself are going to say wood is good.Car lovers may like the painted look of Wilson and Merlin.
Are extended warranties necessary on plasmas?
CC and BB are known for things like this. It's how they make profit. There is so much competition for plama TV's right now, they have to sell them for near what they cost. They make profit on the extended warranty. My personal feeling is to only g...
Just getting into mid-fi need advice
For someone getting started, the studio 100 v3 is an excellent choice. There are better out there, but they are more picky about placement, and electronics, and won't offer the overall value that Paradigm will. Magnepans are too big for your room ...
Out of curiosity, where does everyone live?
Grand Rapids, MI
Studio 20's or Proac?
Can't speak for the Proacs haven't heard them. I know that A LOT of people like them. Personally I own the studio 20 v3. I love them. They are not perfect by any means, but in my system for the price, and with my equipment, they sound fantastic.
