No good new music?
In 2002 I scored: Natalie Merchant's Motherland (somebody dumped her so hard she left out the lyric sheet. Electric banjo too, woohoo!); Dylan's Love and Theft (Tex-a-billy from those who know); The remaster of Traffic's Low Spark (bargain oldie t...
Speaker Polish?
I use Johnson Wax Lemon Favor available at a Target Store near you. Be careful not to rub any dust grit back into the finish. Oils are nice for solid woods. If my veneer lifted I'd lose my mind :^)
Ever Have One Of Those Evenings?
Holy cow Zaikes! Reminds me of the time I fused ALL the output transistors in my Dynaco Stereo 120 as well as a coupla woofers while running 2 pairs of A-25's in parallel. But wow, it sounded great just before it caught on fire. Live and learn.
retail list pricing ?
Each October the now defunct AUDIO magazine published this data, along with specs, for everything currently available. Sorry, I'm not aware of anyone on or offline who took on this task.
Deja Vu All Over Again
I'm there Albert. My '63 3.8 XKE Coupe. In "arrest me red", an orange variant. Twas the only car I ever had that actually growled like a big cat. It leaked every fluid it hoped to contain and used a quart of oil every 100 miles. But running or sta...
How do you determine your weakest link?
Hi Warrenh. My odyssey has been largely trial and error. A few years ago I freaked every time I played CD's featuring flute or soprano sax or upper register piano. It just sounded shrill. Hurt your ears kinda shrill, especially at advanced volumes...

What will 6 feet do, now?
If you could see all the signal from radio, tv, cell phones, computers, microwave ovens, vacuum cleaners, hair dryers and H.O. trains saturating the air around your power cords, interconnects and components you might have your answer.
How important is aesthetics to you in purchasing
The look of a product is important to me. Symmetry, simple layouts of controls, thick & shiny aluminum fascia, they all get my vote. The more wild a component looks, the more suspect it is. Swooping curves, spaceship looks, gimmicky mood light...
My wife finally got it
Hmmmm, good for you Slip...you better watch out/you better not pout/'cause Santa Claus is coming to town.
Thoughts On "Bowling For Columbine"
Does anyone remember the early scene in the movie 2001 when the ape discovers he can use a tool to kill? He's overjoyed. It then skips our intervening evolution and goes straight to the orbiting space station. Our society will remain violent so lon...
Is a Phono required?
Yep, if you wanna play LP's you'll need a phono preamp. It takes the very low level output from the phono cartridge in a turntable and converts it more or less according to something called the RIAA (record industry association of america) curve t...
Thoughts On "Bowling For Columbine"
His movies are great. Thanks for the endorsement.Once while exiting a crowded commuter train in Perth Australia there was quite a press of people going from the platform up the escalator to exit the station. When I got to the top there stood a pol...
DC Leakage and dealer issues
It sounds like you're going to send the incompatible power amp back and get a refund net of the repair costs. Get your poweramp-eating preamp checked out. Then it's up to you to show the manufacturer that you and your unit behaved in a reasonable ...
Any thoughts on older Dual/Denon tables?
My 1970 Dual 1219 plays with no fuss whatsoever :^) Vinyl sounds so great I've never felt the urge to splurge for anything wilder. The plastic headshell was the only bit that ever wore out; I was renewing my cartridge once a year. The later, sprin...
