Problems with Cary 303-200
I had both a used 303/100 and a new 303/200 that both skipped. cary uses the cheap, problematic Philips CDM12 transport which is a real piece of junk. You'd think that this price point, they'd use something more reliable. Anyway, check out my thre...
Do you rember your first?
Yep. 'Twas 1977 and I was depressed because my first girlfriend had dumped me even though I was SO in love with her. To cheer me up, my Dad (rest his soul) bought me a Marantz receiver, Garrard turntable and a pair of Superscope speakers. I was ho...
Musical Fidelity CD-Pre24 Opinion
I've got an entire rig of MF gear and love the sound as well. Personally, I would go for separates rather than the CD-Pre24. If you like MF, the A308 series is great.
Musical Fidelity CD-Pre24 Opinion
IMHO, you should get the BEST redbook player you can afford. There are some issues with alternative formats. First, SACD/DVD-A really sound great with titles recorded in those formats. However, most of the titles currently on SACD/DVD-A were recor...
ARC LS 12 v. MF A3cr
Thanks, Rgcards. That's exactly the kind of substantive advice I was looking for.
Integrated amp & player for B&W 804, pls
I'm using Musical Fidelity separates with my N804s. Sounds magnificent. MF and B&W work VERY well together. Go for the MF.
PC for Magnum Dynalab tuner
I've got an MD-102 and use a Harmonic Tech Pro AC-11 Power Cord. It does wonders.
Garbage in - Garbage out?
There is no doubt that speakers are an exceedingly important part of the equation. However, I would disagree as to the "digital is digital" argument. I've heard numerous instances where a much better source (e.g., a CD player with great power supp...
Spade ID size for Musical Fidelity A3CR amp?
I'm not sure the 9mm spades will do. Those are jagunda binding posts. My solution is to put the spade in top down through the post hole and then tighten down. It works just fine.
SACD- my intial thoughts....
Bluefin,Well, there's the rub. The SACDs I've heard (on an SCD-1) were reissues of older titles. Quite frankly, I've yet to hear any "pure" DSD recorded stuff. Perhaps those will sound better, although the titles don't thrill me. And, I'm not abou...
SACD- my intial thoughts....
I agree with Buxter66. I've heard SACD and find it to be overly detailed to the point of fatigue. Sometimes, too much of a good thing is bad. I much prefer listening to CDs on my MF Nu-Vista CD player. The sound is simply glorious.
SACD on Redbook Player
Well, not to get off track (I DO love the Stones), but my question is whether there may be something endemic to the DSD process which results in listener fatigue such as I have often heard when playing dual layer SACDs on my redbook player.
B&W 804's Vs. Vienna Acoustic Beethoven
I've gotta disagree regarding the N804 analysis. Granted, the 804s don't have DEEP, booming bass. However, they do bass extremey well depending on the particular recording. Well recorded/mastered bass sounds extremely robust on the 804s while poor...
Thiel cs 2.3 or B&W N803,804?
Personally, I like the N804s best. There's really not much of a difference between the 803 and 804s (7" woofer vs. 6.5" woofer and larger cabinet), but certainly not $1,500 worth. If you mate the 804s with excellent electronics (in my case, Musica...
sacd vs xrcd
I've found xrcd FAR superior to SACD ... to my ears, SACD is very harsh and fatiguing. More info doesn't necessarily mean better sound quality. Agree with Bomarc that better mastering is the key. Many redbook remasters I've heard sound far better ...
