Upgrade my MD 102 Tuner? I can't use an outdoor antenna. A powered antenna doesn't work too well, either. So, it's just a standard, 75 ohm indoor antenna. The unit does not have the XM radio feature ... quite frankly, I wish there were some kind of module I could hook up ...
A recent thread about speaker/floor isolation I'm a big fan of "floating" the speakers. I had Eden Sound make me two Terrastone plinths for my B&Ws. The sound is far superior to coupling with spikes.
Coupling or Decoupling speakers? I had Eden Sound make some Terrastone plinths to put under my B&Ws. "Floating" the speaker achieves much better sound than the spikes, IMHO.
Heard the B&W N804d3s ... @ mb1audio ... My speakers used to be set up in dining room/living room combination in my old condo. It was the same issue back then ... I think the fact that the N804s lowest frequency response is 42 -45 Hz is the problem for me. While the bass i...
Heard the B&W N804d3s ... Thanks for the suggestions, folks. After due consideration, I’ve decided to keep my N804s and supplement them with a sub ... specifically, a Rhythmik L12. If I don’t like the sub, I can return it for a full refund within 45 days. Also, I played ar...
Heard the B&W N804d3s ... Thanks, folks. My system is the N804s, a Musical Fidelity Nu-Vista CD, BAT VK-3i preamp, Musical Fidelity A300cr power amp (225 wpc), and Magnum Dynalab MD-102 FM tuner. Cabling is Cardas Golden Reference. Old stuff, I know, but it has served me w...
Heard the B&W N804d3s ... Mb1 audio ... to which speakers are you referring?
Heard the B&W N804d3s ... Quite frankly, I still dig the sound and looks of the N804s (which I think are designed nicer than the current model). Just wish it had a bit more bass. Maybe a really good sub would do the trick.
Cheap tweaks...What would YOU reccomend? I removed edensound damping discs from the tops of my components and used them as footers instead. HUGE betterment in sound.
Have I Hit The Point Of Diminishing Returns? Bombaywalla - Thank you so much for your effort and advice. It is appreciated greatly.

Have I Hit The Point Of Diminishing Returns? Charles - yes, I think you're right. I was curious as to price/performance ratio after one gets to a certain point in the "journey." Perhaps I have a case of "upgrade-itis," but it is dissipating quickly. After asking myself the question you posed...
Have I Hit The Point Of Diminishing Returns? John - Thanks for that. I was just curious as to how much better it could get versus cost. Perhaps I've got "upgradeitis." However, to pay a significant amount for a de minimis improvement or difference in sound, makes little sense to me. It just ...
Have I Hit The Point Of Diminishing Returns? Al - I sold the Velodyne and am running the B&Ws full range. Sounds much better ... I will revise my system description.
Have I Hit The Point Of Diminishing Returns? Interesting views. My power amp is 225 wpc dual mono, so I THINK it's powerful enough, but I could be wrong. Love how the B&Ws and Cardas sound in this system, although I agree that they may not work in some other systems. Essentially, there s... |
